Prince Henrik’s First Christmas

November 8th, 2009

Prince Joachim and Princess Marie’s little son Henrik’s first Christmas is approaching, and the parents have already begun the planning. Prince Joachim told reporters that it would be a good guess to say that they will spend it at Marselisborg Castle.

However, Princes Nikolai and Felix will unfortunately not be able to there, as they spent their last Christmas with their father, and therefore, as per their usual arrangement, will spend this one with their mother the Countess of Frederiksborg and their step-father Martin Joergensen.

It is also expected that the Crown Princely family will spend Christmas with the Queen and the other Prince Henrik in Marselisborg as well.

Countess Alexandra will not be on ‘Vild med Dans’

June 20th, 2009

Countess Alexandra of Frederiksborg, former wife of Prince Joachim, has refused an invitation to participate in the Danish version of ‘Strictly Come Dancing’, a show which sees minor celebrities and would-be celebrities dance in competition with each other to win the competition with their dancing, and perhaps get their ‘15 minutes of fame’.

Alexandra was allegedly also offered a position on the show two years ago, which she politely refused. Crown Princess Mary’s father John Donaldson has apparently also been offered a chance, but he too has declined, according to magazine Her og Nu.

Countess Alexandra has joined VL Group 42, which is an organisation for business networking. She says “To enter a VL group is for me a great way to say with firm voice that I am very interested in business. But one of the most important things of VL-groups is the network. It was one of my criteria for entering – to have a large network. Not only with the group members but also with other groups on the days when all the groups meet, and where there are hundreds of people.”

As well as being the Countess of Frederiksborg, Alexandra is a director of Ferring Pharmaceuticals. Before coming to Denmark as a Princess she worked in business in Hong Kong, working for GT Managment (Asia) Ltd as a deputy chief executive.

VL Group 42 itself is the most prestigious organisation of its kind in Denmark, with  a membership of only forty people. To join an invitation from another member is crucial (thanks to TRF Danish member Lilla for the information).

Countess Alexandra, her husband and two sons Prince Nikolai and Prince Felix have been spending the last month on holiday in Hong Kong, where Alexandra was born. If possible, Alexandra tries to take her children to Hong Kong every year to see her sister Nicola and her three children, who are the only ones now  of her family who still live in HK (her parents live in Vienna, and her other sister in the UK) and so that she can catch up with her friends.

They are expected to be back by Easter, and Alexandra will apparently resume her schedule of engagements on the 24th.

Countess Alexandra appears on the cover of the current issue of Costume magazine, in which she gives her second interview to the magazine; the first was in 2004, when she was still a Princess.

The Countess wore a dress that had been specially designed by Jesper Høvring for the occasion, using 40 metres of fabric and taking three men two weeks to make. It was made of silk flown over from London and cost approximately 100,000DK. When asked how working with the Countess has been Høvring said that it had “…been fantastic. She is superbly beautiful, cordial, obliging and very pleasant to work with.” The inspiration for the dress came firstly from the location in which it was shot, in front of the pantomime theatre in Tivoli, and secondly from his wish to match the Countess’ “class and power of penetration.”

In the interview Alexandra talked about her fantastic relationship with Marie and Joachim, her feelings on having a husband 14 years younger than her and her charities and patronages. Read more…
