New Portraits Mark Nine Years of Grand Duke’s Reign

http://i312.photobucket.com/albums/ll345/TRFphotos/TRF%20blog/Flags/luxembourg_small.gif The Court of the Luxembourg Grand Ducal Family today released a series of new family portraits to mark the ninth anniversary of HRH Grand Duke Henri’s accession to the throne.

The set of fourteen photos features the entire Grand Ducal Family; and for the first time included Princess Tessy, the wife of Prince Louis, and the couple’s two sons, Gabriel and Noah, in an official photo with the whole family. There are also individual shots of each member of the family, as well as a portrait of the adults in cocktail attire.

The Grand Duke took the throne on October 7th, 2000, after his father, Grand Duke Jean, abdicated in favour of his son. The process began officially at 10:00 that morning, when Jean signed the Grand Ducal Abdication Decree at the Grand Ducal Palace in Luxembourg. At 11:00, Grand Duke Henri took the oath of the Luxembourg Constitution: “I swear to observe the Constitution and the laws of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, to maintain the national independence and integrity of the territory, as well as public and individual liberties.” Later that afternoon, the Grand Ducal Family attended a mass of thanksgiving at the Notre-Dame Cathedral. The enthronement services were attended by TM the King and Queen of the Belgians, and HM the Queen of the Netherlands.

10 years as King for Mohammed VI

King Mohammed VI, who is 45 years old, has been King of Morocco for the past 10 years, after his father passed away in 1999 after ruling for 38 years. To mark the anniversary of taking power, traditional ceremonies as well as parties and concerts took place all over the country. Marching bands and firework displays where the start of the four day celebration.

King Mohammed VI had given a speech where he said “In the last 10 years, Morocco has been able to realise major sustainable development projects,” in a televised address. “And I tell you sincerely, it was not an easy undertaking for us. But despite all the difficulties and challenges, I promise you we will continue our efforts for the development of our country.” For King Mohammed’s full speech click here.

The monarch traditionally gives hundreds, even thousands, of pardons to inmates each year as the country celebrates the Feast of the Throne, this year King Mohammed pardoned 24,865 prisoners, and commuted 32 death sentences. In selecting them, the King took into account “humanitarian considerations in allowing the prisoners back into society,” which led to the release of 517 women who are pregnant or have children and 137 minors as well as 659 inmates of different nationalities and commuted 32 death sentences to life imprisonment, the ministry said.

Jordan Royals attend 10th anniversary celebration

 Their Majesties King Abdullah and Queen Rania were greeted with thousands of Jordanians who gathered on the Royal motorcade’s route, holding Jordanian flags and pictures of the King, singing national songs and dancing on the capital’s streets on Tuesday as their Majesties headed to Amman’s Stadium to attend a major event to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the King’s accession to the Throne. Around 15,000 Jordanians from all ages attended the main ceremony in Amman Stadium, along with several Royal family members, diplomats, senior officials and military and security personnel.

At the ceremony at Amman’s Stadium, a documentary was screened by playing a segment of the address delivered by the late King Hussein’s on the day his eldest son, Abdullah, was born 47 years ago. It also showed the progress the Kingdom has achieved during the past decade in the fields of human rights, education, development, health and modernisation. The film highlighted the country’s diversity, tolerance and keenness to preserve its heritage.

Marking the occasion, festivels were held across the capital which took place in tents on the sides of the main streets to mark the anniversary which also featured folk dances, playing of national songs as well as traditional dishes were being offered.

Accession of Elizabeth II (6 February 1952)

avatar1149014ee9en-elizabeth-m1 February 6th marks the 57th Anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s accession to her Throne.

The Accession of The British Sovereign is a rare and detailed procedure. “The King is dead, long live The King” may summarise the process but it is only the tip of the iceberg. While there is no interregnum and the crown passes immediately to the Late Sovereign’s Successor, there is a series of events and protocols to be adhered to on this auspicious occasion.

Her present Majesty acceded while in Kenya, staying at Treetops. All attempts to inform The Princess Elizabeth of her accession failed until a journalist picked up a broadcast from London, thus beginning the process of returning the new Queen to her realm.
