It's not that the Austrian government turned coldly against the Danube Monarchy, It's what comes next.
After restoration. And I'm not referring to the usurper Karl King of Hungary's decedents. They're not even In the picture.

The Anstalts or Constitutional Austria that ran Habsburg territories then and now rejected Karl as Emperor of Austria, because he shouldn't have been there In the first place. He may have been crowned King of Hungary but never Emperor of Austria. And there was no prospect of him continuing.
After the first war ended, fact Is fact.

There are 2 major factors the brought the end of Danube Monarchy:
Karl King of Hungary, (His Interference In things that did not concern Him.
The hidden factors that he knew nothing about)
And the Treaty of Saint-Germain, (full stop).

Emperor Franz-Josef's plans Included an Interregnum, a period of change between Emperor 's that would have modernized the Danube Monarchy.
A change In the laws of succession that would allow his decedents succeed to the throne.
A law to bring Independence to the Kingdom of Hungary

(The Habsburgs In there Time like no other family has endured so long or left so deep a mark upon Europe: The Habsburgs where the greatest dynasty of modern history, and the history of Europe revolves round them, not they round It.
Author: A J P Talyor. The History of the Habsburg Monarchy 1809 - 1918)

Modern Austria Is not a Republic by choice as It's people where never given the opportunity between Monarchy or Republic.

There Is many hidden factors & truths about the end of Danube Monarchy. Things no one will ever know about, but you'll always get the conspiracy theorists that will go aaahhhh but?
