I should think we all wash our hands before preparing a meal and although I am a vegetarian, I am able to prepare and cook meat. If you are at the side of a road and a rabbit or hare has had it's back broken after being run over, it would be cruel to just leave it suffering, because you haven't any rubber gloves. The same with game birds that have been shot but not killed. Kate only picked up the bird, she didn't snap it's neck, if you kill them or eat them you should be able to pick them up!
