I don't agree with some of the things he has done since, but he did guard many of her closest secrets, the problem with tragedies like the death of Diana, is that the real person gets lost in the tales told after their death.

What a pity he didn't immediately return the items he had taken 'for safe keeping' to their rightful owners. He had no right to hold onto any of it with the excuse that he would have returned them 'in person' to the princes. IMO!
He didn't do too well with her secrets either, he printed them for all to see!
