Chefe da Casa Real Portuguesa considera que evocar vida e obra de D. Carlos é "um acto de justiça e de reconciliação com a História - RTP Notícias
The Head of the Portuguese Royal House, Duarte Pio de Bragança, said today that the comemorations around the death of King D. Carlos "is an act of justice and reconciliation of the Portuguese people with its History". During the presentation of the commission in charge of the celebrations, D. Duarte stressed that the aim is not to remember the regicide, but the figure of D. Carlos, "a Portuguese man who gave his life for the Nation".
The commission that was presented today in Lisboa is co-ordinating a series of events, such as exhibitions, conferences and meetings about the politic, diplomatic, artistic and scientific facets of D. Carlos. Among those initiatives there is a series of conferences in the National Center of Culture of Lisboa (in February), a seminar about the Portuguese overseas at Torre de Belém (in May) and a colloque in the Catholic University about the king and the constitutional monarchy (in September).
There will also take place an international oceanographical congress (in October), the printing of comemorative stamps with the portait of King D. Carlos, the international sailing Cup D. Carlos to happen in the Algarve (in August), as well as an iconographic and photographic exhibition about the monarch scheduled at the Catholic University (in September).
Finally, the Ésquilo publishing house will release "Diário íntimo de D. Manuel II" (The intimate journal of D. Manuel II) and Asa will republish the book "O príncipe real - D. Luís Filipe de Bragança" (The Royal Prince - D. Luís Filipe de Bragança).
