I agree with Avalon, the ring looks like a bijou to me also, or to put it less politely, a paste ring. I think she wore it to have a more formal look and dress up her outfit. I don't much care for the necklace and bracelet she's wearing either, they are definitely not my taste in jewelry.
I think the dress she's wearing is lovely, and I do like her pumps. I just wish she'd chosen different jewelry for the occasion. I think Catherine's mother looked very pretty! I do think she should have worn sleeves, but her dress was very nice.
