This article in the Evening Standard has a lot of great information. According to the featured photographer Alistair Morrison, Catherine first showed interest in photography when she was still attending university at St. Andrews.
"Speaking at the launch, the 51-year-old photographer said: "She is very, very good, and it shows. She takes very beautiful detailed photographs. She has a huge talent and a great eye. I'm sure she will go far."
Morrison has known Miss Middleton since she was a history of art student in St Andrews, where she met Prince William.
He added: "She approached me when she was at university to come and do a little bit of work with her and we've kept in touch. She came to my gallery (in Windsor, Berkshire) and we talked through some of her work. She was looking to get a little help. She's very excited about the show. It's great that most of her family and friends came to support her."
I find it heartening that Catherine organized this event to honor Alistair Morrison's work, and also that half of the proceeds from the event and all of the proceeds from the book are going to UNICEF. Good for Catherine!
It's nice that Prince William attended the event to be supportive of her. The article in the Daily Mail says that he ate dinner with Catherine and her entire family. (both Catherine's brother James and her sister Pippa were there, and also her mother and father.)
It's also nice that Camilla's daughter Laura Lopes attended, as well as several of Prince William's close friends including: James Meade, Holly Branson, Guy Pelly, and Jamie Murray-Wells. This was a well-attended event! The photos of the attendees are available on the usual photo-websites such as Getty, etc.
It looks like the plans must have been in the works for this for some time, I doubt if Catherine just arranged this in the last two weeks. I'm glad she's really moving forward with her plans for photography.
