On the beach lying in the sand he caresses her and jumps to fetch things whenever she wants something. Maybe he doesn't want her to suffer from badly-ending relationships anymore.

That's really sweet, and it's good to know she's still has someone there for her after losing her father and the badly-ending relationships that she's been through.
