Paris, the city of love was the backdrop for Infanta Elena and Jaime de Marichalar’s blooming relationship. They met in 1987 while Elena was taking a course on French literature and Jaime acted as a cicerone for Elena and her friend Leticia, who was also a relative of Jaime’s. Although Elena and Jaime dated, they were not photographed together until 1993. On 23 November 1994 they became engaged and were married on 18 March 1995 at Seville Cathedral, which was the first royal wedding to have taken place in Spain in 100 years. The Duke and Duchess of Lugo have two children, Felipe (“Froilan”) and Victoria.
