Carlota, Christian Louboutins shoes are easy to recognise because they all have red soles, forinstance Olga of Greeece says she ONLY wears his shoes (ofcourse that would make anyone green with envy), so on all pictures of her you can see the red trademark sole on her shoes, the pics posted of the shoes above are not the best but in closeup you can see the red sole peeping out on the heel and under the shoes.

Whuaaaaaaaauu, i love this thread...go on posting!

Toledo 06-17-2006 09:51 AM

I did not know who Manolo was until the TV series Sex in the City made him the most popular must-have shoe name in New York. Almost like a shoe god for the city wear. There was even an episode discussing the character spending all her money in shoes she could have used for a loan on an apartment.

Here are his creations at the British Design Museum

...Thanks in part to Sex And The City Manolo Blahnik has become one of the handful of designers whose name is synonymous with their product. In his case it is his Christian name, because “Manolo” is now used as slang to describe very expensive, very beautiful shoes: even by the millions of people who have never actually seen a pair of Manolo Blahniks and could not dream of spending $300 or $400 to buy them....

mtbcm 06-17-2006 11:56 AM

I am quite sure Infanta Elena has some Manolos.

Don Jaime is a big fan of it and he even offered Dona Letizia a pair to use in her wedding day, so I am sure he must have offered some to his wife.

But :(, I'm not big fan of shoes, sandals and so on (to be honest I have to double check threads whenever you mention that accessory ;))...but I will look to find.

Regards,
mtbcm :)

Gisela 06-17-2006 12:01 PM

Perhaps we should also start a thread on Royals in Christian Louboutin shoes. Lol. The Monegasque ladies seem quite fond of his creations. I must admit, the shoe threads are among my favourite on this forum.

WindsorIII 06-17-2006 12:31 PM

Oh this is a great thread. :)

I'm sure Infanta Elena has a few pairs of Manolos. Here are some photos of her husband is coming out of a Manolo Blahnik store and yes he is carrying a bag. Most likely a gift for his wife!:)

It says he even has invested in it. I need to ask my husband to invest in Manolo Blahnik. Although I doubt it will go over well. :p

http://www.wireimage.com/GalleryList...20Elena&nbc1=1

Jaime de Marichalar, Infanta Elena's husband, comes out of a Manolo Blahnik shop in which he has some invesments.

lula 06-17-2006 12:40 PM

Jaime de Marichalar and his sister Ana are associates of Manolo's shop in Madrid that was inaugurated last year ... this way it is easy...how it is normal to see the women of the family with Loewe's purses, company of which Jaime is counselor and Laura Ponte image.;)

florawindsor 06-19-2006 02:59 AM

I always wonder how you guys can recognise the brand of the clothes/shoes/ bags. bags are easy, cos they have the logo on them. but how do you recognise the clothes/shoes? do you recognise the design cos you have seen the design on the runway/on magazines or when you see something new royals wear, you look them up on the websites of the designers?

kelly9480 06-19-2006 03:10 AM

Clothes are easy to recognise if you know which designers a person favors. For designer labels, you can look them up on Style. Shoes are harder, but some, like Christian Louboutin, have trademarks (his are red soles).

CasiraghiTrio 06-21-2006 11:54 PM

She was "hidding" being pregnant with Caroline, by carrying always the big size (40 cm) in front of her belly.... And the bag was named .. kelly

Caroline has a very very huge collection of Kellies.... I'm wondering if she payes for them, or if they are complimentary offered by Hermes.... for the promotion and the use of the name...........

Most likely, Hermes gave them to her. Princess Caroline has clothes and accessories sent to her by a multitude of designers hoping she will wear them out and about, so especially Hermes would send her the bag they named for her mother. Christian Dior, Hermes and Chanel all send Caroline loads of freebies.

I doubt that. The Kelly is universally desired, and Hermes is notorious for not giving anything away. Even Jane Birkin had to pay for her namesake bag which she helped design.

Louboutin's are beautiful shoes, but too pricey for me right now. Maybe one day I'll be able to afford a pair of killer black heels.

I would think Caroline would be flooded with freebies from every major french fashion house. If it's a Hermes Kelly bag though, maybe she inherited her mother's collection? When Prince Ranier died, I though Caroline was wearing her mother black lace veil that she wore on her visit to the vatican.

Valentino the royal dressmaker

Has anyone notice how many Royal outfits Valentino seems to make. He seems to be the only designer anymore who makes the kindof things older rich women wear even de la Renta has gone for the young now. I also think he lives a nobel kind of life and is very sauve so fits in at events and knows what the ladies need and want to wear . Think he's my older playboy pin up lol. He's the older then Rafael Medina in middle and as the youngest Mikush Sapieha X

yes, his style is very elegant and anyone, any age could use it, the other thing to do it is to find a dressmaker and a fabric close to that and have it re-make or similar at a fraction of the price.
No it is very difficult for me to by myself clothes, my mother was a model when she was young and she was a dressmaker too, so I use to dress marvellous, everbody thought that i was from a rich familly! now she is older and her hands had deforemd so she can not saw anymore, so it is frustrating to try to buy something decent with the money that I can afford and fit me properly I am very petit and normally everything is big for me, I use to drive crazy the sotre sellers!

As much as I admire Valentino, I cannot get over the weddingdress he did for Maxima. Okay, the veil was absolutely beautiful, but why did he come up with a Nun's dress for such a vivacious Latina like Maxima?? It didn't suit her personality at all. I know it was a winter wedding, but this dress looked like Queen B.' Prinsjesdag dresses.

well, you might be right, she said something about it when they design, but i am not sure how much involvment she had in all the organization of her wedding, probably it wass organize everything by the royal family and may be she was suggest what kind of dress she had to have!

I have to disagree with you. The dress is pretty much timeless, in my opinion. The cut and fabric suited Maxima very well; moreover, it does look very much like in keeping with traditional Hispanic wedding dresses. A majority of my Latina, who were married in the Catholic church, girlfriends had very covered up traditional gowns similar to Maxima's.

I believe he also designed CP Marie Chantal's wedding gown and also gowns for several of the occasions leading up to the wedding itself. I think his designs are classic in their beauty and ever so elegant.

Regarding Valentino’s royal wedding dresses, IMO Princess Maxima’s was wonderful, a luxurious masterpiece of understated elegance and of tailoring.
I never liked Marie-Chantal’s wedding dress though. Too heavy, unbalanced and unflattering, it strangled and suffocated her.

It seems to me many royals has stopped wearing Valentino after the man himself retired, I cannot remember Queen Sofia, Maxima or Mette-Marit in Valentino from the "new" designers. Not even the most frequent wearers like Rosario or Marie Chantal, but those two Im not sure about... Valentino gowns are also less seen at the big events in Hollywood now it seems...

It just isn't the same after he his retirement. I'm sure if Maxima or Marie-Chantal were to call him and ask if he could make them a custom dress he won't mind.

NATAN - the Royal Designer

During the last year the Belgian lable NATAN (by Edouard Vermeulen) became more and more popular among the Royals. The royal love for his fashion started in the Benelux countries and it seems to spread to other monarchies too (Sweden for example ;)).
NATAN

The circle of NATAN-wearers:
Princess Mathilde , Princess Claire, Queen Paola, Princess Máxima, Queen Silvia, Duchess Maria Teresia, Princess Margriet... I guess I forgot someone.. ;)

and because everyone is using the same designer they sometimes wear the same clothes (especially Mathilde and Máxima ;)

they are such a public figures that i wonder they do not mind to have the same cloths?

Boris 06-07-2009 11:05 AM

And why do they not mind bad quality?
No matter what you think of Natan's designs in terms of taste (and IMHO, his choice of colors, prints and details is for the most part perfectly awful), his clothes are obviously badly made:
Weird seams, shifting necklines, uneven hemlines, embroidery of the crassest kind, inferior fabrics used, and most regrettably of all, a very bad fit.
His concrete stand-up collars, his short square jackets over skirts with inverted pleats, his glued-on looking candy applications, very rough and stiff draping, the too busy prints and the too shiny materials do not exactly add up to an overall picture I'd call elegant.
Whenever he attemps some more difficult tailoring, like evening gowns with elaborate skirts ending in trains, the result is an inevitable failure.
Style-wise, he mostly copies designs from the 60s, influenced by the likes of Courrèges, Givenchy Balmain and Oleg Cassini, and he repeats a few signature details indefinitely which makes his stuff most repetitive.
From my point of view, he has single-handedly managed to ruin the look of Princess Maxima, Princess Mathilde, and GD Maria-Theresa over the past few years - or rather, the ladies' own decision to constantly wear Natan has.
Queen Silvia and CP Victoria seem to wear individually fitted Natan pieces, personally made in better fabrics instead of off-the-rack, and this, along with the fact that they only wear his clothes from time to time, almost saves their appearances in Natan.
But all in all, I consider him to be the worst royal dressmaker of them all... more a disease than a designer.
The virus has been spreading for years now, and I just hope the royal victims get it under control one of these fine days.

Al_bina 06-07-2009 11:39 AM

When it comes to Natan, I have mixed feelings about his creations worn by Crown Princess Mathilde. I am a huge fan of stand-up collars. Thus, I tend to like his jackets and dresses with stand-up collars. However, I have to admit that Natan's creations lack polished tailoring. They appear to be poorly fitted on Crown Princess Mathilde, thereby making her look unflattering. I am not keen on wild colour palette and prints aggravated by shiny material.
I think that creations by Albert Kriemler of Akris woud have suited Crown Princess Mathilde much better. They can be described as
modern, feminine and discrete. His designs have got an uncomplicated silhouette and perfect tailoring the designer takes pride in as well as are simple to combine.

Sephora 06-07-2009 11:45 AM

I am not big fan of Natan clothes, but I like the bags, I myself own two.

I think the thing with Natan IMO is that he is so hit and miss - there are times where I think his work is brilliant, but also plenty of times when I dont understand why they wear his designs at all!

For example, the yellow dress (Mathilde) and Maxima's skirt HM linked to above, are both a waste of space as far as I'm concerned; but the coat linked to last was great.

I just feel that Mathilde & Maxima have overworn his desings to the exclusion of other designers too much over the last few years.
Boris is right, the Swedes have done better with him because they use his styles more carefully & less often; just hope they maintain the status quo!

Princess_Beatrix 06-17-2009 05:43 PM

i really hate natan's fashion.
90% of his clothes worn by mathilde or maxima look horrible. they are always too shiny and don't fit well.
i don't understand at all why the royals love this fashion so much. :nonono:

dazzling 06-17-2009 05:50 PM

Why do they choose Natan? Was he once upon a time a great designer? was he outfits really nice to start for and started going bad?

His creations arent anything special and it gets boring to be honest when royals wear the same outfit but in a different style. It seems that they are his personal models and each one is displaying the different designs they come in. For Mathilde and Maxima, I always think that his skirts or dresses are way too short since they are quite tall ladies (taller than the average). Simply, his outfits dont suit them at all.

Her_Majesty 06-18-2009 04:34 AM

I don't get it either actually.
I wish this weird obsession would find an end soon... :ermm:

CHANEL, CHANEL on royals!

Hi everyone!

I simply love CHANEL.
Are there any royal ladies who weare CHANEL?

Nathalie Cox 06-21-2009 01:37 PM

Princess Caroline and her daughter like Chanel a lot. They always wear special clothes that Karl Lagarfeld gives them :)

I had no idea they were the only ones allowed to wear Chanel... I thought they would at least wear Valentino since it was a celebration about him but when I saw the pics of them in Chanel I was a little disappointed bc I bet they would look so perfect in his clothes.

Maxima wore a grey, tweedy-type Chanel coat to Prince Floris and Aime's wedding.
She may have worn Chanel to the baptism of her 2nd child Princess Alexia, anybody know for sure?

The former Christina Manley wore a pink Chanel jacket to one of her engagment press conferences for her upcoming marriage to Prince Joachim. Marie-Chantal wore a Chanel suit for her engagement announcement as well and wears Chanel quite often.

Even though Elena isn't a beautiful woman, she protrays such elegance, as befitting the daughter and and grandaughter of Kings and Queens. I think she is the last one of her kind.

The dress by Natan.

Lumutqueen 06-28-2009 09:31 AM

:previous:
I've just looked at Natans website and some of the hats that were done for royals. Like the one worn by Maxima at Alexia's christening was by someone who worked for Natan I think?
Thats they only thing I have liked by that company.
Mathildes dress in the link above doesn't suit her at all. :flowers:

Thus, I tend to like his jackets and dresses with stand-up collars. However, I have to admit that Natan's creations lack polished tailoring. They appear to be poorly fitted on Crown Princess Mathilde, thereby making her look unflattering. I am not keen on wild colour palette and prints aggravated by shiny material.
I think that creations by Albert Kriemler of Akris woud have suited Crown Princess Mathilde much better. They can be described as modern, feminine and discrete. His designs have got an uncomplicated silhouette and perfect tailoring the designer takes pride in as well as are simple to combine.

I agree. CP Mathilde always seems to have these two ill-placed pleats on the bodice of her dress -- the whole outfit ends up looking quite skimpy on her. Too bad, she's a very pretty woman.

ikram 06-28-2009 09:58 AM

I prefer Zara or MAngo on CP letizia
than Natan on CP Mathilde or CP Maxima ....

sgl 06-28-2009 11:48 AM

I admire the fact that Mathilde and Maxima are so loyal to a designer that comes from the Low Countries, but I just don't think that his styles are very flattering on the princesses. The skirts do often appear to be too short, and some of the fabrics that he uses appear to be too thin or cheap-looking. I don't know if he designs with the princesses in mind, or if he tries to tailor his designs to the princesses when they express an interest in an outfit.

I have always liked his designs best on Princess Claire, who appears to be more petite than Mathilde and Maxima. I think that his designs would look best if he created them directly for Mathilde and Maxima (and stayed away from the pleats and thin fabrics).

magnik 06-28-2009 12:04 PM

You know what if it doesn't happen yet, it would be fun to see all princesses (Maxi, Mati, Laurentien, Calire etc.) in Natan's on the same event. Maybe even same outfits.

maria-olivia 06-28-2009 01:50 PM

I think even that a belgian or foreign lady is not allowed to ask Natan the same dress like Mathilde, Claire, Maxima were wearing.
The Princesses order to Natan ( E. Vermeulen) many dresses at the same time for the different events they have to assist, and the models are exclusive.
When Maxima and Mathilde were wearing the same black and white coat, it was because Maxima went to Prada. This would not happen if Mathilde and Maxima ordered both their coat by Natan. He should make for both Princesses something different.

Boris 06-28-2009 02:07 PM

Unfortunately, the topic about 'Royals and their similar style' here is full of Natan designs, which are not very exclusive after all - neither literally nor figuratively.
He has frequently used similar and even the same tailoring, colors, fabrics and prints on all kinds of Belgian, Dutch, Luxemburgian and Swedish royal ladies.
This alone would be a good reason for them to stop wearing his repetitive fashions.

magnik 06-28-2009 02:23 PM

After that what Boris wrote I have a question.
Why royal ladies want to wear NATAN's clothes?
What is it with them - magic, good price, good style, simply they like them or what?

maria-olivia 06-28-2009 03:11 PM

Do you prefer Princess Astrid mostly dressed by Chanel ?
