25 OCTOBER 2004

http://www.hellomagazine.com/graphics/sendtoafriend.gifPrincess Caroline of Monaco started a three-day private visit to the Philippines this weekend, her first to the east Asian country.

The eldest daughter of Princess Grace is continuing her mother's charitable legacy on the trip: she's meeting more than 300 street children sheltered by Amade Mondiale, a non-profit established and chaired by the late royal, during a visit to Makati in suburban Manila.

And like her mother, Caroline, who now chairs the organisation, is a hands-on humanitarian during her fun-filled lunch with the underprivileged children, she cradled one happy two-year old in her lap, reading to her and carefully helping her drink from her cup.

Caroline also had other events on her agenda, hoping to draw attention to the problem of homeless and abused children. A meeting with President Arroyo on Monday was to be followed by a fundraising gala at the Makati Shangri-La Hotel.

The Monegasque charity Amade Mondiale, which provides homes for homeless youngsters in third world countries, collaborates with Virlane Foundation, one of the largest NGOs in the Philippines

When royals travel, do they travel on private planes?

LadyMacAlpine 10-26-2004 10:19 AM

The Grimaldis and Windsors have their own jets would assume most of the others do as well. I know that Princess Caroline would use the Concord to travel to NY.

kittencrews 10-26-2004 11:02 AM

I know from previous pictures of Caroline and the rest of the family traveling they have taken private planes, but in that last picture it seems she took Air France or something.

Personally, I also think she's very beautiful and I like her because she has lived life on her own terms, whether it be good or bad, that requires lots of guts...and I respect her for it...

It's great to see her doing this kind of work. I' m surprised because she always seemed shallow for me.

Is there any video about the trip??

She looked very nice.

paulette 11-01-2004 09:49 AM

I have really seen Princess Caroline in personal and I would really say that she looks very good when she does not wear those heavy make-up. She looks better in something light. And I would really say that I am proud of her that she visited the Philippines for it was really our great honor to have her.

I can't even imagine our local politicians there going to the place where the princess went. She was already there near the squatters area where it is a big evidence that people in the Phils lives in poverty.

Here are some older articles I have found. They're really interesting, esp this one:

IF there is justice in this world, no Filipino children would be at the mercy of toxic wastes left at the former US military bases in Clark and Subic. If there is justice in this world, they would -- like all children should -- be happily at play and looking to a future brimming with hope. They would not be grievously ill and their bodies riddled by afflictions directly caused by the toxins still enveloping their homes, poisoning the water they drink and the very air they breathe. Quite simply, they would not be dead.

http://news.inq7.net/opinion/index.p...d=16279&col=84

And here is the rest:

Monacos Princess Caroline is coming to the Philippines to visit hundreds of homeless Filipino children now living in 12 shelters set up by an affiliate foundation of Amade Mondiale which was founded by her mother, the late Princess Grace of Monaco.

A princess with a heart for poor kids

ROYALTY came to town yesterday, but instead of attending glitzy functions, the visitor chose to mingle with poor children in the cities of Manila and Makati.

Caroline for kids

THE END of the year should groan from the heavy load of glitterati events. Princess Caroline of Monaco is visiting sometime in the third quarter.

She'll be here to visit the home for disadvantaged children she helped build. Not known to many, my source told me, Princess Caroline has been giving donations for the benefit of Metro Manila's street children. She is a major donor of Virlanie Foundation.
Two high-society doyennes are being asked to co-chair the committee for Princess Caroline's visit-Chito Madrigal Collantes and Imelda Cojuangco.

Pinoy kids get a royal champion

CAN'T go to London to visit the queen? Why not have dinner here with a princess instead? You will not only be conserving precious foreign exchange at this time when Filipinos are called upon to tighten their belts, you will also be helping a few hundred street children.

I stumbled upon an article from Le Figaro Magazine on Princess Caroline's trip, and I wanted to add some pictures I don't think were posted at the time, but mostly, I wanted you to see her handwriting, since some excerpts from her travel diary were published in the magazine. Then I found a really old analysis of P.Caroline's handwriting in Point de Vue, right after her marriage to Philippe. The editor indicated that P. C was a keen believer in graphological interpretations. I actually found the expert's analysis of Philippe much more interesting and intriguing. Anyway, no surprises there : Caroline is described as a sentimental person, with a rich and generous nature, who feels somewhat nostalgic about her childhood, a golden time when she could express her wholesome appetite for life, expansiveness, movement, whimsicality, without constant scrutiny. She assumes her role of married woman with seriousness , moral conscience and is an animated, warm, unpretentious presence. She finds some of the obligations (which? it is not specified) tiresome, and her real interests lie in everything that relates to humanity, art, nature, children, rather than intellectual speculations. But the obligations are also a source of satisfaction, she likes to please, she is feminine, she enjoys being highly regarded and enjoys the homages due to her, for in spite of her ease, she lacks some self-confidence and needs to be reassured by the approval of others. She also fears others may not like or respect her for who she is, and she has a great desire to be loved, deeply and sincerely, for herself. She has an emotional nature and feels everything very intensely. She does not confide easily, discriminates among her friends and remains reserved about her innermost being. She is passionate, absolute in her desires and judgments, and is somewhat impatient. She lives in the present. (It's a bit of a hodge-podge, and I have paraphrased, being now scared to death about posting literal transations...)

What I found interesting is how emotional, intense and passionate her 2004 diary is, just as the graphologist had analyzed in 1978. She says she can't keep from crying as she listens to a very moving song, she never wants to see such pain, misery, poverty ever again, she expresses her outrage that nothing is provided for these poor children who live in these buildings as in prisons. She seems extremely observant of everything around her, everything arouses questions, pleas, shock, a great desire to do something and move other people into action. (She is also very anti-Bush in this article, but you probably know about the letter she wrote to him which was left unanswered.)

In brief, she is as complex a woman as she has always been from a very young age, introspective, writing in a real diary style of discovery, a desire to connect, to use awareness (hers and others' whom she can influence) to do something for people in need. There is a lot more I could add, having reread that Figaro Magazine article but this is a pretty long post as it is. (For example, that her charisma may be a gift from God to in fact influence people).

As always, I love her, what can I say ?

Tosca 01-08-2008 10:35 AM

After seeing those pics -BTW, thanks Iloveroyals for posting! - I'm wondering if Caroline, like her sister being active in helping women to fight AIDS, couldn't use her charisma in order to help women (and men, of course)to decide how many children they want to have? I realize this is a little controversial point...

hibou 01-08-2008 10:48 AM

Thanks for all the articles and wonderful pictures. Do we know what her 2008 schedule might be for all her charities? She is very genuine in her help. I would like to see her get more global attention from the press on these issues the way Princess Diana was able to do.

iloveroyals 01-08-2008 07:27 PM

Tosca and hibou, you are right. I don't mean to sound like some kind of mystical nut, but I think Princess Caroline was not put on earth just to be a princess. She has had a very clear mission in mind from very early on in life (I don't know if I mentioned somewhere that - an example among many-she used to help the handicaped in their pilgrimages to Lourdes as part of her girl scout duties ?), partly through her mother's upbringing who believed very strongly in contributing to the needy, and I think Caroline is getting closer and closer to fulfilling a more global role. I totally agree that her innate charisma is being focused more and more toward humanitarian actions and away from glamour, and that glamour is now a means to an end. I think it is reflected in her clothing choices, and mostly, a demeanor that is radically different, I would say inner-directed if I didn't mean the opposite : outer-directed: a more thoughtful, preoccupied air, as if she were contantly weighing the benefits of a rich material life against those of a rich spiritual life. I may be totally projecting, but it would be in keeping with her age and stage in life. I think there is still a lot in store for us from the Princess, that Princess Caroline will surprise us.

All so true.:flowers: She is one hell of a Lady, with a big thoughtful mind and a big heart, of whom her mother could be extremely proud (hey, her father too, for that matter!). Star quality of her caliber is very rare, and I respect her enormously for the way she has apprenticed herself to the lifelong goal of learning to apply it to the good of goals much larger than herself.
