Dutch State Visit to Latvia; May 22nd-24th, 2006

HM Queen Beatrix will visit Latvia from 22 May to 24 May 2006. The programm will take place in the capital Riga and the city of Liepaja.

Monday 22th of May: Riga

- Arrival at the airport of Riga.
- Welcome at the presedential palace
- Official picture, signing of the guestbook, followed by a tête-à-tête
- Ceremony at the monument of Freedom
- Visit to the chairman of the Saeima (parlement)
- Visit to the town hall for a presentation on city development
- Visit to the museum of Occupation
- State banquet, offered by the president in Melngalvju nam (Blackheads House)

Tuesday 23th of May: Riga

- Presentation by member of the Latvian Centre for Human Rights and Ethnic Studies
- Visit to the University of Latvia for a presentation on the Human Development Report and handig-over of a book about the bilateral relations between the Netherlands and Latvia.
- Theme related lunch with presentation by the members of the Strategic Analysis Commision with as main theme the reintegration in Europe.
- City walk through the old part of Riga with a visit to the cathedral
- Reception of the Dutch community in Riga
- Concert of the Concertgebouw Orechestra, offered by the Queen to the Latvian authorities.

Wednesday 24th of May: Liepaja

-Arrival at the airport of Liepaja.
-Tour trough Karosta, a area with detoriated villas from the 19th century and partly detoriated flats from the Soviet era.
-Briefing about the economical and planological develepments of the city.
-Tour through the harbour.
-Walk through the centre of Liepaja.
-Concert in the Liepaja Latvian Society House
-Visit to the Holy Trinity church
-Depart at the airport of Liepaja

So the Queen will travel alone,or will she be accompanied by WA and Maxima?

This time the Queen will travel alone. Normally W-A and Maxima only accompany her at state visits outside Europe.

I really hope for some nice new hats of the Queen. ;)
I'm really looking forward to some new pictures.
It's sad that WA and Maxima aren't joining her...

Queen Beatrix arrives to Latvia

Oh God, the dead bird. She wore that hat at a Prinsjesdag some years ago. I definitely don't like it... :(

The flower bouquets that Queen Beatrix and President Vaira Vike Freiberga got are really beautiful, but if I may say so - neither of the otherwise two fantastic ladies are not exactly dressed in their best. Queen Beatrix wears that quite terrible "bird feathers hat" and the shoulder pads seem to be in place, and the cut of the President's suit doesn't really fit her.

That's a really interesting hat of Beatrix's. She certainly shows some fashion style there. The colour chosen by the Latvian president is really girly, and she probably try to balance the Queen's fashion sense. I agree, they both could do better choice with their outfits.

She loves those feather hats ;) I don't really like it. Too much feathers.
But her outfit looks good :)

Well I must say her image improved during this museum visit.

She looked much better during the museum visit.
I like her wearing pink and light colours.
Her Hat also looked much better. :)

I don't like feathery hats, but IMO Queen Beatrix (and Queen Fabiola) can pull them of...but nobody else ;) I believe HM used this one at Prinsjesdag 2004 already. She definately looked better during the second visit.
Good to see that the minister of foreign affairs is sticking to her, so she has some company :) I like the necklaces of the Queen, they are formal enough, but more 'flamboyant' then the traditional pearl necklace.
Also good to see president Vaira Vibeke Freiberga, I realy like her!

Luckily HM lost the feathers somewhere during the day. The other outfits were much better, I especially liked the pinkish one. :)

I've got some pics of the state banquet (picture press europe) and the unbelievable has happened: Beatrix is wearing the tiara of the Sapphire parure! Great! :D

I had never seen that tiara, and HM looks spectacular with it :)

I'm glad Beatrix is finally wearing a decent gem. Wow....
