Welcome to the thread for old photos of the Earl and Countess of Wessex.

Please note that old photos may not be directly attached to the thread, and they may not be hotlinked from a commercial website. They should be hosted separately at a photo-hosting site such as ImageShack or Photobucket and posted from there.

I'm quite surprised that a thread with that topic has not excisted yet. So I'll have to scan some pics in soon ;) Here are some from 2001 and 2002:

Great pictures, Laviollette! Thanks for posting. Is that an agency we can all get pics from? Never heard of it before..
Here are some pics from Gettyimages/Tim Graham, still I can't believe that these pics have not been posted elsewhere, but well, definetely not in this thread :)

I've always adored them as a couple but they are so low-key, it's not easy to get info on them unless Sophie has shot a bird or put on a fur hat. ;) The pics show they've been doing a lot of royal duties in the last several years, which is not always noticed. I'm glad everyone likes the pictures. It's my pleasure and you're very welcome. :)

Duchess 03-14-2006 07:13 PM

someone said earlier they liked her hair short...it's funny how people see thing differently...i like her hair longer. at any rate she's such a lovely woman. always so well dressed. she wears clothes very well doesn't she.

linda85 03-14-2006 07:15 PM

I wasn't too sure of them in the beginning. They got off to a rocky start but now they seem to have come into their own : a hard working couple who help the Queen and Duke with the family firm. I do admire Sophie in that she always is very discreet and lets Edward assume the role that he is known for: son of a queen. She is a good support system for Edward. They seem very happy with their marriage and their daughter!

Laviollette,
Thanks also to you for the very nice pictures of the couple. They are a handsome and striking couple.

Edward reminds me of Charles a little bit. Both needed and need strong women behind them for support but who know how to let their royal spouse shine!!

Hi Iceflower,

The reason this thread looks new is that until a few months ago we had threads called "News and Pictures threads" where news, new photos, and old photos could all be posted. Because of the bandwidth problems we decided to limit direct attachments to new photos, and to make things easier we split the News and Pictures threads into Current Events threads, where new photos are posted and may be directly attached, and Pictures threads, which are for old photos that must be hosted separately.

It's only recently that the Earl and Countess of Wessex News and Pictures thread hit ten pages and was replaced by the new format. There are still some News and Pictures threads around the forums, and old photos may be posted in those threads but they must be separately hosted.

michelleq 03-14-2006 09:56 PM

I think that she is such an attractive woman! They make a lovely couple.

bertie5252003 03-15-2006 12:39 PM

Thanks for posting all those great older photos it is lovely to see how Sophie's style has improved since her marriage. I have always thought her really appropiate and so she continues to be .

emac0914 03-15-2006 01:32 PM

Hello to all--I'm new. I think Sophie has a more mature style than Diana had. Diana was always chic no matter what she wore. I think Sophie prefers the suits with trim fitting skirts, the blazer with pants--those always look best on her. She is not the tall, lanky, lean look that Diana had but a more mature looking woman. There is a lot of resemblance between her and Diana, though.

michelleq 03-15-2006 07:41 PM

Other than that Tiara, she was quite a beautiful bride.

The Prince has always had a problem with dressing properly in which it was commented on when he turned 21 and was wearing socks and shoes that were mismatched during a photo shoot. Unless his pants has some tan or brown in them, aren't those the wrong shoes with the suit? Anyone see what I see and agree or disagree?:)

lady_windsor 03-16-2006 03:28 PM

I agree, the shoes do stand out a bit but maybe at the time, that was the fashion??

I like the one where you see The Queen in her car and Prince Edward and Sophie besides the car talking to the Queen. It seems so natural.

Do you know if the Countess of Wessex has the title of Princess Sophie?

crisiñaki 03-21-2006 05:27 PM

As far as I know, Sophie is named the Countess of Wessex and is not a princess in her own right; she's Princess Edward and that's why I think she prefers the Countess title:rolleyes: ;)
If I'm not right please correct me:o :)

I haven't seen this posted, but this is the picture that I remember reading about where he was criticized for his attire in that it was poorly picked and that his sock color and clothing was mismatched. And, accordingly, the photographer had him in the leaves to disquise that fact that his sock color mismatched his shoe color for whatever it means to anyone.

iceflower 04-02-2006 03:14 AM

LOL Thank you for sharing that, HRH Kimetha. I think that criticism has been exaggerated and he does look quite good on that pic no matter what colour his socks have..;)

I really like the last two photo, with cream top and on libary floor. In the pink top shot, she was wearing a signet ring. I can't make out the details but it looked like a crest. Was this one taken with the rest in 1997? I'm just curious as Sophie wasn't engage to Edward then.

Iceflower, again thanks for the pictures of Sophie. Where do you find these pictures? Do you know where these pictures where taken ( who's house?)
Sorry about the question on her engagement ring, I wasn't paying attention to the years, dates. Apparently with these photos Sophie and Edward where very serious about their relationship. I guess because of the death of Diana Princess of Wales it delayed things. Anyway thanks Iceflower really appreciate your posting of pictures and information.:)

You're welcome patsy, as to your questions: I found those pics in the Spanish mag HOLA and English HELLO, but I do not know where exactly they've been taken. Sorry for that..

Sydney, thanks a lot for your pics, Edward in his costumes is too funny :D

The Countess of Wessex always looks so smiley and happy. It is great to see!

iceflower 04-23-2006 03:13 AM

You are absolutely right, Will's princess :)

Here are two of my favourite pics of the couple: So in love at "trooping the colour" 1999 shortly before their wedding and walking hand in hand at Easter 2001:

First Easter holidays before their wedding in 1999 and first Easter holidays as a married couple in 2000 :)

The Countess is not skinny like a fashion model. But it's a stretch to call her "fat". Looking back at pictures of her through the years, aside from her pregnancy, her figure doesn't fluctuate wildly. IMO, she looks healthy.

"Healthy" sounds quite good, there are enough woman around that are much too skinny..
Sophie and Edward at a garden party in summer 2000 - I like that special dress :) :

her royal highness 05-12-2006 04:36 PM

I think it's great to have a healthy curvacious woman in the BRF it's a comfort to know that she is a realistic person not deathly thin and keeping up with other celebrities. Sophie is a lovely woman and I hope she never changes.

Sophie is simply beautiful and she was just what the British Royal Family
needed. A breath of fresh air!

sophie looks wonderful. her figure is perfect. funny how society is now use to the "rail thin" look where all you see is bone protruding.

Thanks , everyone for posting all those fantastic photos. It is gratifying to see how genuinely happy they are. Very attractive. I do like the photo of Sophie and Phillip, the one of Edward and Sophie on a swing bridge with his arm about her. There are a couple of them holding hands. They seem to have a very good repartee, if that is the correct word.I quite liked all her outfits, except for 2 or 3.. Sophie is very attractive and Edward looks very happy in her company.
Thank you again, everyone, for posting all these photos... Kate

There is a photo ( There is a photo on here of her wearing this suit) of Sophie, wearing a linen colour two piece suit with a matching hat.. the skirt is above her knee, : just in front of her and to the side is Diana standing and she is wearing a striking outfit as well, darker in colour, and I believe the length was to the calf, with a wide brimmed hat. Whenever I've seen this photo, I am always impressed how attractive each lady is and , yes, although they do resemble each other in colouring and hair, they are both lovely and each are their own person.. I wonder if they would have been friends?:) Does anyone have that particular photo..? They were at a wedding... Sorry - Don't know how else to describe this one..

If I have the wrong event, at least here are some more Sophie pix ;)

I also believe that KateMac meant that event, as I can't remember any other wedding they both attended :) Here is the pic of Sophie and Diana together:
