Japanese Princess Takamado smiles as she receives a mascot of the 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany, "Goleo", from Franz Beckenbauer, German football great and president of 2006 World Cup organizing committee, in Tokyo, 06 October 2005, while Japan's J-League Urawa Reds head coach Guido Buchwald applauds. Beckenbauer is now here for the promotion of next year's World Cup football event.

Japan
Tokyo, 6 October 2005
Japan’s Crown Princess Takamado, who had already been guest of honour last summer at the FIFA Confederations Cup, posed with Germany’s Franz Beckenbauer in front of a mini replica of the football globe which is promoting the 2006 FIFA World Cup around the world. Stuttgart’s FIFA World Cup ambassador Guido Buchwald, who coaches the Urawa Red Diamonds and calls Tokyo his second home, was also present here. Buchwald won the FIFA World Cup in 1990, and received the Baden-Württemberg order of merit from German ambassador Henrik Schmiegelow for promoting German-Japanese relations. Princess Takamado was even more pleased, however, since she had asked for a cuddly toy version of Goleo VI, the FIFA World Cup mascot, and ended up taking a four foot replica of the lion home to her palace. The media presence was also bordering on record-breaking proportions, with 150 reporters on hand.

Stylish Princess

With all the attention paid to the European princesses, I wanted to acknowledge Princess Hisako for her style and presentation. She always seems to be impeccable in her outfits, and while they are conservative, she never appears dowdy or age-innappropriate.

In addition, IMO she is the most effective representative of the modern Imperial family because she always is pictured with a big, genuine smile and seems sincerely happy to greet people and serve in the various functions which she attends.

It truly is a tragedy her husband died so young. I think they both represented their family and their country well. And who knows, they might have also been another chance to avoid all the succession crisis by the birth of a son.

Regardless, kudos to her!

Yes, Princess Hisako is the most visible and best representative of their family, IMHO. She never seems put out - just putting her best foot forward and her sincerity also shines through. She is truly worthy of being Imperial. It does make me think that what's she is doing is something that Masako envisioned for herself. It would have been better to see both of them out there in the world.

Thanks, mandyy, for the last set of pictures. :flowers: I also like the last one best - you're right, it's rare to see the 3 Takamado girls together.
