The King's 58th Birthday - 30 April 2004

Its the king's birthday today....

Dennism 04-30-2004 09:06 AM

Thanks for the pictures, Yennie. That was a cute photo.

Josefine 04-30-2004 09:06 AM

what great photo the kid hugging the king.

i saw more photos and most kids gave the king a hug......

Cissan 04-30-2004 09:52 AM

I was there!!

At first there was one girl hugging the king and he looked a bit shocked, but after that all the kids hugged him. There was a long line of kids who wanted to give him flowers. It was really nice.

Victoria looked really strict but very happy. Madeleine, I noticed, looked a bit... what should I call it... "off". After the orchestra had played music everyone started clapping and Madeleine started much later than everyone else. And she didn't smile so much. I wonder if she was sick or tired or something...

Dennism 04-30-2004 09:56 AM

That is too bad about Madeleine. Maybe she had a tough night studying or something. Strict but happy. Hmm. That was cool. One spontaneous moment and then everybody did it. Awesome.

Cissan 04-30-2004 10:01 AM

When I say "strict but happy" I mean she was standing very straight up and her head held high so she looked very serious. But at the same time she seemed to be laughing and joking with princess Lilian all the time.

I think she seems like such a lovely person! :flower:

Yennie 04-30-2004 10:06 AM

Better picture of the King

Okay. I knew what you meant. Just serious. I figured. Yes, lovely. All of the time. Glad to see her having a good time too. Like the photos where she is peaking out on the balcony from behind Lillian.

Thanks to all, who have posted pictures! :flower:
Madeleine has/had always very cute/young and "fresh"-looking facial features (the lips, the form/shape of the face, the colour of the eyes), but when I look at her skin (in these pictures, esp. the closeups) then I see the skin of a much older woman than one of 21...she should really stop this tanning!

lubgk 04-30-2004 01:28 PM

I really liked Madeleines jacket, it had a nice cut. But she looked a little bit sad...

I definitely agree that she is looking sad in these pictures. In one of the pictures of the siblings, it looks like Victoria is trying to cheer Madeleine up, but it doesn't seem to be working. I feel bad for her.

Josefine 04-30-2004 03:14 PM

what did you think of victorias earings?

Lena 04-30-2004 03:20 PM

The earrings look nice...these long earrings fit to her. But I´ve to admit that the first thing, which I spotted, was the gel-fixed ponytail. Gah...I should try to be more positive!

Teresa 04-30-2004 03:27 PM

I'm happy to say: I WAS THERE!!!!! :D

And despite the two hours standing, the fact I couldn't see that much bc of this taller ppl on my front, I enjoyed it very much.:)

Interesting that has been posted that Madeleine looked tired, when I look at the pics I agree, and being there I had the impression she wasn’t much into it...
I thought all the family would be going down and not just waving from the balcony, but one can't ask for that much :P The other think I didn't like that much was the times nothing was happening...and everyone was waiting for the schedule time for something to happen.
There were two older ladies just next to me that complained it used to be nicer. 50 years ago was much better and that even last year it was better...Anyone has been there before that could tell me if this is true?
:flower:

Dennism 04-30-2004 03:38 PM

Yeah. Tired. I looked at more of the photos and I thought she looked bored as well. Too bad about the taller people. That often happens. But it is great that you were able to go.

Gita 04-30-2004 05:49 PM

Princess Madeleine looks so much prettier without that heavy tan that she had for most of last year.

Yennie 04-30-2004 06:11 PM

Thanks for posting the pics, everyone!

Nice to see some new family pictures...but:
-Madeleine looks so tired/bored
-Silvia has an outfit we´ve seen maaany times before
- Victorias earings looks...odd
but Carl Philip looks hot..as usual :P
And I must say, last years photo session was much better!

haha, enough of my opinions, It´s nice to see the family together again!

What a difference! Look at the pictures of today's celebrations in Sweden, then take a look at the celebrations in the Netherlands!! Everyone in Sweden looked so serious- beautiful- but serious. Maybe the King should invite Princess Maxima to his party next year- I'm sure she'd liven things up a bit!!! :punk:

Dennism 04-30-2004 09:47 PM

This is true. She would. However, the Swedes, relatively speaking, let their guards down more on the National Day. But generally, you are right.

Has princess Madeleine worn a white coat? The one she has worn, when she has visited the children´s hospital?

Dennism 04-30-2005 09:27 AM

It looks like that coat. Victoria is wearing the great coat she wore in Japan.
"And the women go wild..." at the sight of Carl Philip in his uniform...

Thanks for posting them.

"great coat"...hmm
I wonder, why they don´t show at the balcony for a "regular" birthday. That with the window worked fine, when the children were small and could be placed in the front row...but now the whole family is about the same height and they have to change places to be seen of all.

Dennism 04-30-2005 09:36 AM

Good point. I think it´s time for some redecorating! "Watch out. We´re making a bigger space for a window!" Yes, well, I think it´s a great coat. I am prepared to stand alone(like the cheese) in that opinion.

Thank you, Dennis. I wonder, if the children went this year on to hug the king...or if they went back to the old "habit" just to shake hands. This pic says clearly "shaking"...but maybe the little boy is just shy.

Yes, and what attractive shoes they are...:)

Boris 04-30-2005 10:11 AM

Oops... about that family pic: CP Victoria's pink coat is not so great IMHO as she must have bought it at least two sizes too large - and Princess Madeleine's pant suit looks as if it was made of paper - so stiff & uncomfortable.
I don't think that the rather 'cold' setting for the photograph in that icy white Palace hallway does help either.
Plus, here we go again: Victoria's eternal rubberband ponytail & Madeleine overdoing it on the (fake?) tan... sigh. Queen Silvia & the guys in the family looked much better today.

GrandDuchess 04-30-2005 10:23 AM

Hey people! I was at the Royal Palace today to celebrate His Majesty, and it was great - lots of people and a good programme on the courtyard, and a yummie Prince Carl Philip in a uniform slightly behind his father! :D

I must say that I'm extremely disappointed at Crown Princess Victoria. I really don't like this jacket, the colour is just too much, it's way too big and it looks like a raincoat... She destroyed the whole picture with it, the visual unity of the family, because it stood out so much.

Otherwise, a good day! Okay weather, they had promised rain, but only a few drops came in the end. Nice singing and cheering for HM, and afterwards I signed the congratulatory records.

PS. Pics are coming! DS.

Well, I agree that she could have worn something else but I do like the coat. Maybe it wasn´t appropriate what with the King and Carl Philip in uniform, Madeleine in a suit and the Queen wearing a very nice coat.

I agree with GrandDuchess, Victorias coat was to much and not suitable for an official photograph. In Japan it was ok and I like when she´s wearing colours instead of just black all the time. But for yesterdays photo shoot it would have looked much better if there was "colour harmony" in the photo.

I think Madeleine looks stunning. She is simple and elegant. However, Victoria's outfit leaves a lot to be desired. It did not fit correctly and she looks frumpy.

Those scarfs look like something elderly teachers (for art or languages) wore at my old school. And I could swear I´ve seen such things also around the wrinkled neck of ETW.
Madeleine should choose other accessoires to a) express herself or b) to hide the love bites

Yes, you are probably right...I guess her top in the opera is a different (more conservative) one.
