A little bit on William from HELLO! Magazine....

Boisterous and at times rebellious as a child, Prince William has matured into a studious and sensitive young man. Born on June 21, 1982, Prince William Arthur Philip Louis Windsor is the eldest son of Diana, Princess of Wales and Charles, Prince of Wales. From an early age he was already breaking with tradition. The fact that his mother gave birth in London's St Mary's Hospital made him the first crown prince not to be born at the palace and, unlike his father and paternal grandmother, who had private tutors, he attended nursery school.

In 1995, after spells at Wetherby prep school in Kensington and Ludgrove, he became the first future monarch to attend Eton College, one of Britain's most prestigious secondary schools. There he excelled at sports - particularly swimming - and settled down to become a serious student.

His parents divorced in 1996, and the following year he showed great strength in coping with the devastating news of his mother's death in a car crash in Paris. With immense courage he insisted on walking behind Princess Diana's hearse in the funeral procession. A year later, William issued a joint statement with his younger brother, Prince Harry, asking both press and public to let the two of them get on with their lives in peace. It was a tactic which proved largely successful, and the Prince voiced his appreciation at the tenth anniversary of the Press Complaints Commission in February 2001, his first official engagement.

After graduating from Eton with 12 GCSEs and three A-levels, William decided to study art history at the University of St Andrews in Scotland. Adopting a modern approach to the monarchy, he has asked to be registered at the university simply as 'William Wales'. Before embarking upon his studies in the autumn of 2001, William opted to take a gap year in order to travel, including a ten-week stint doing community work in Chile, and 15 weeks studying conservation in Africa.

The Prince spends a good deal of time at Windsor Castle with the Queen, who is very concerned with his upbringing and career development. Although on the whole he appears not to relish the limelight, the handsome William has acquired worldwide status as a heart-throb, something vividly demonstrated during a 1998 visit to Canada when he was mobbed by hordes of teenage girls. His extraordinary appeal lies not just in his good looks, however. He is also a well-mannered, responsible and mature young man who shows a strong sense of duty to the royal family, and an acute awareness of his role as the future King.

I found this article online and thought that in light of the recent discussions about Michael Fawcett and the accusation stating that Her Majesty thinks that Charles' behavior is taking the monarchy into the gutter that I would post this article here.

Don't hold back. Tell us what you really think!

Disgraced royal aide to organise Prince's 21st
By Andrew Pierce

THE Prince of Wales has risked arousing strong controversy over the role of Michael Fawcett, who resigned last week from St James’s Palace, by awarding him the contract for Prince William’s 21st birthday party, which will be attended by the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh.
The presence of other senior members of the Royal Family at the social event, which is to be held at Windsor Castle in June, will be a huge publicity coup for Mr Fawcett’s new events management company. The Prince of Wales has brushed aside any criticism and is insisting that Mr Fawcett, who had already begun planning for the event, be allowed to finish the job.

Last week The Times reported that Prince William feared that if Mr Fawcett left St James’s Palace over his central role in the sale of royal gifts for personal gain, he would sell his memoirs for bids reputed to be in the region of Ł2 million. St James’s Palace announced Mr Fawcett’s enforced resignation on Thursday, only minutes after the publication of the report by Sir Michael Peat, the Prince of Wales’s Private Secretary, into the collapse of the Paul Burrell trial.

A senior royal source said: “Michael’s already started preparatory work for the party. The work is ongoing. He is in charge. It’s what he does best.”

Other guests on the list include the Princess Royal, the Duke of York, the Earl and Countess of Wessex, and the exiled King Constantine of Greece. Young Royals such as Zara and Peter Phillips will also attend the party, which will generate worldwide publicity and help to establish Mr Fawcett’s company as the leader in its field.

While there may be potential for embarrassment, the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh will definitely attend. The source added: “The Royal Family regard 21, not 18, as the official coming of age.”

The Times has learnt that the Prince of Wales was “appalled” when he read the 100-page report by Sir Michael, which was more critical than had been predicted. The Prince reluctantly agreed to its publication without any amendment.

The source said: “The point has been made that if he was a Cabinet minister he would have faced calls for his resignation, but what Cabinet minister would even agree to a report like this being written, let alone to publishing it? I don’t think he has been given enough credit for what he has done and agreeing to act on all its recommendations.”

The report was heavily critical of the Prince for financially benefiting from the sale of official and private gifts, and for not having in place any system of registering the receipt or disposal of the gifts. Any gifts the Prince receives in the future will be regarded as presents for the Queen, who will have the final say on their disposal.

More than Ł50,000 is to be spent on upgrading storage facilities at St James’s Palace and Highgrove to ensure that there is no repetition of gifts being ruined by damp.

Mr Fawcett leaves the employment of St James’s Palace at the end of the month to set up his company, as yet unnamed, in London. The Prince had guaranteed an undisclosed amount of work for Mr Fawcett.

"The point has been made that if he was a Cabinet minister he would have faced calls for his resignation, but what Cabinet minister would even agree to a report like this being written, let alone to publishing it? "

------------------------------
The point is that it appears Prince Charles lets anyone and everyone push him around. Why did he have to allow a report like this to be written about him? He isn't acting in his own best interests. Who is making his decisions for him and what is motivating them?

Or maybe Charles himself really doesn't want to become King?

From his latest interview, I think William is an ordinary guy in an extraordinary situation.

In some ways, I feel sorry for him. Not only about losing his mother (although that is such a tragic, tragic thing that words can't express it and I doubt I could do justice to it, so I'll leave it at that), but William is expected to be the savior of the monarchy. People want him to be King because in addition to his looks, we like the fact that we watched his scrub toliets and help others during his gap year. He seems to be a typical person, and people respect him for that.

But he doesn't really have a choice, does he? I mean, certainly he can walk away from it all, but is he ever going to be free from the media? Will the monarchy crumble after he leaves? (A lot of people question Harry's ability to rule . Although someone once stated the problem with the Royal family is that there is a heir that doesn't want to be King [William] and his brother that is just dying be in charge of the ship... ). He's going to be scrutnized in whatever he does, his choice of wife, etc. Plus, there is this talk about him suceeding his father and having a father that's jealous of you and the attention you receive...well, that's never an easy thing to handle, is it?

To sum it all up, I think, given his suitation, he's pretty remarkable...lookwise, intelligence- wise, etc. ;)
