Swedish Official Visit to Japan: April 22-25, 2018
The King and Queen will visit Japan on 22–25 April 2018 on the invitation of the Japanese Government. The Swedish Government will be represented by Minister for Policy Coordination and Energy Ibrahim Baylan and Minister for EU Affairs and Trade Ann Linde. Business issues will be the focus of the visit, during which Sweden and Japan will celebrate 150 years of diplomatic relations.

During their stay in Japan, Their Majesties The Emperor and Empress will invite Their Majesties The King and Queen to a dinner. Mr Shinzo Abe, Prime Minister of Japan and Mrs Abe will hold a meeting with Their Majesties The King and Queen and host a dinner in their honour.
The three-day visit will take place in Tokyo and Kamakura.
A more detailed programme for the visit will be published separately.

This was kind of waited, very good news! It is funny though that the Swedish and English versions of the press release aren't identical. The Swedish version doesn't mention a dinner hosted by the Emperor and the Empress. I hope that the English one is the correct one.

Museum Gustavianum of Uppsala University will have an exhibition titled "The Art of Natural Science in Sweden – Treasures from Uppsala University" in Tokyo. The exhibition will be opened in the presence of the King and Queen of Sweden and Emperor and Empress of Japan on 23rd April.

On April 23rd, King Carl XVI Gustaf, Queen Silvia, Emperor Akihito, and Empress Mchiko visited a special exhibition "The Art of Natural Science in Sweden — Treasures from Uppsala University" commemorating 150th anniversary of Japan-Swedish relations at the JP Tower Museum Intermediatheque in Chiyoda, Tokyo. Today the king and queen visited the exhibition "The Art of Natural Science", then they visited the Unicef House. At the Embassy they were briefed on Japan's economy and politics with the participation of the company delegation. They attended at seminar "Future of Transport". At the EDGE of Shibuya they were briefed about the start-up climate in Japan and introduction to Swedish and Japanese start-up companies. The emperor and empress hosted a dinner in the evening.

On the third day of the visit king Carl Gustaf participated in the opening of the Japan-Sweden Business Summit. About 200 corporate executives from Sweden and Japan participated in the meeting held at the Roppongi Hills Academy.
During the morning, the Queen attended the Dementia Forum X, organized by Swedish Care International in collaboration with Silviahemmet. The forum, arranged twice in Sweden, aims at strengthening the knowledge and awareness of dementia at international level.
In her speech at the forum, the Queen expressed a hope for increased knowledge exchange between Japan and Sweden:
"I hope that this day will be the start of many rewarding discussions that lead to innovation and cooperation, which can eventually develop into new solutions to improve the lives of those living with dementia and their relatives."
King Carl Gustaf and queen Silvia hosted a lunch to crown prince and crown princess of Japan.
By 2020, Japan hosts the Olympic and Paralympic Summer Games. In the afternoon, the royal couple visited the construction site of the Olympic Stadium. In place, the King and Queen received information about the project focusing on sustainability and accessibility issues.
Due to the fact that Sweden and Japan highlight 150 years of diplomatic relations this year, Sweden's ambassador to Japan, Magnus Robach, invited the jubilee dinner on Tuesday evening.
During the dinner, the King held a speech focusing on the opportunities offered by strong Swedish-Japanese business relations.
"Digitization transforms our societies. Innovation is the key to maintaining the headline, but it is also the key to sustainable development", said the King in his speech.

King Carl Gustaf and queen Silvia met Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and his wife Akie at Akasaka Palace in Tokyo and attend at a dinner.

In the morning, the King visited Keidanren's headquarters with representatives from the Swedish Enterprise.
Keidanren is Japan's leading business organization and they discussed business climate, cooperation opportunities and development areas.
During the morning, the Queen attended the Business Swedens seminar "Future of Healthcare" at the Swedish Embassy in Tokyo.
The seminar provided an opportunity for Swedish and Japanese companies in medicine to discuss the future health care in the field of e-health and digitalization.
King and Queen of Kamakura
In the afternoon, the royal couple visited the ancient Samurai town of Kamakura, famous for its temples and historic buildings. Here is also the project "Living Lab for Active Ageing", a collaboration between Linnaeus University, Johanneberg Science Park and the University of Tokyo. The project is working to improve the living situation for the elderly and focuses on issues of loneliness and segregation.
During his stay in Kamakura, the royal couple also visited a traditional Japanese Minka house. There they spoke with Yoshihiro Takishita, architect and representative of the Association for the Preservation of Old Japanese Farmhouses.
Akasaka Palace
Later in the evening, the King and queen participated in a meeting and a subsequent dinner with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe at Akasaka Palace in Tokyo.
During the dinner, the King held a greeting speech in which he talked about the friendship between Japan and Sweden, about the historical ties that unite the countries and about the need for cooperation.
"In recent days, the Queen and I have once again had the pleasure of flörnya our strong ties to Japan and the imperial family. As always in your country we have been received with outstanding warmth and hospitality. (...) We live at a time when the challenges is increasingly global. Cooperation is more important than ever. "
