The Nobel Festivities Through the Years
7 Attachment(s)
This thread is for Nobel years which don't have their own thread (only 2002, 2003 and 2004 does). I felt that it was needed since I have pics that I want to share from past Nobel years, so I will post them here. This can also be a conclusive thread for things to do with past Nobel things (historically, questions etc).
First, some historical pictures: 1) Crown Prince Carl Gustaf in 1972 (Gettyimages) 2) King Gustav V in 1946 (Corbis) 3) King Gustav V in 1938 (Corbis) 4) King Gustaf VI Adolf in 1948 (Corbis) 5) King Gustav V in 1960 (Corbis) 6) King Gustaf VI Adolf in 1950 (Corbis) 7) King Carl XVI Gustaf in 1982 (Corbis) |

Very good job, GrandDuchess. The photos are lovely or jättesnygg.

Ok I really think Silvia is the bling bling Queen

bling bling? What does that mean? |
Bling is a reference to elaborate jewelry and clothing and the appreciation of it. It came into the popular lexicon as a synonym for expensive, often flashy jewelry sported mostly by African American hip-hop artists and middle class white teens.

some more pics:
from 1997, 2001 and 2003 from Nobel 2000 |
From magazine clips:

That black and white dress sure made the headlines, I think it was by Nina Ricci or Balmain, I remember there were speculations, and still is, about the shocking amount of money it had cost, the Queen has not done true Haute Couture many times, this is one of her few and very memorable ones. Its almost always pointed out as the swedish fashion police favourite dress when it is pre nobel time in the papers. Has she worn it more than once, I cant rememeber seeing it again, and knowing that the Queen still wears 20 year old dresses it probably still fits:D

The black & white: Nina Ricci indeed, and first worn for the Luxemburg state visit to Sweden (1991, I think) WITHOUT the top black ruffles and thus showing a lot more cleavage, followed by much comment! I love this black & white dress with its great train, one of her best gala gowns ever, IMHO.
It's not quite true that Queen Silvia doesn't wear Haute Couture. The lilac flower print-dress worn for years (State visit to Italy, pre-wedding ball for Princess Christina of Spain etc.) was Nina Ricci also, the pink gown worn first for the Norwegian state visit to Sweden in 1993, then for her 50th birthday etc. was by Valentino, her 60th birthday dark grey suit by Caroline Herrera, and so on - she does wear couture, but most of it is not even shown at the designer's haute couture shows, so it's just rarely recognized or published. |
nobel 2001 manipulation pic
