Who Is Addressed "Your Majesty"?

I was on a plane from London to NYC yesterday and the passenger near me traveling alone was addressed as Your Majesty. She was the first one let off the plane and had an escort waiting, who took her wheelie bag and took her through customs - the US passport or diplomat line. The escort did ask if she was in the US for Thanksgiving and she said yes. She was tall, thin, longer blondish hair and probably in her 40's. Any ideas?

^ It couldn't have been Maxie (Queen Maxima of the Netherlands) could it? I wouldn't really describe Maxima as thin as I've always thought of her as big boned.
However, she is tall, does have longish blonde hair and is the right age group. Maxima goes to New York quite often as she has an honorary position at the UN for which she does quite a lot of work.
Mette Marit of Norway is tall and blonde but she's a Crown Princess, definitely not a Majesty yet!

When I hear the words your majesty, I think of a King or Queen or some high ranking person in a royal household. I'm assuming that yeadonite that you were on a commerical flight which would seem very unusual for a royal who was high ranking to be on a commercial flight. If you look in Wikipedia, the word has different meanings depending on what country you are in.

I don't think I've ever heard of anyone called Your Majesty that wasn't a King or Queen. I'm posting a link to a picture of Maxima here so that maybe you'll recognize her.

No, it wasn't Maxima. She looked more along the lines of Queen Mathilde, she was very thin. I searched images and cant figure it out. Could she have been some other type of royalty. She was also traveling alone.

yeadonite 11-25-2015 09:02 PM

I was on a commercial flight, BA, in first class. I was looking at Hello Magazine but couldnt find an image of the woman.

^ That is a mystery. I can imagine Maxima hopping on a plane by herself if she had to deliver a speech at the UN and then return the next day. However, I can't see Queen Mathilde travelling alone to a foreign country without even a lady in waiting or secretary, and anyway, she hasn't got longish hair. It must be a consort from a deposed European Royal house and somehow the person addressing her got the title wrong.

How exciting for you to be on a plane with royalty! Your description reminds me of Queen Noor of Jordan. If I am not mistaken, she is tall, slender, blond and American. She might visit family in the States for Thanksgiving. Just a thought. Good luck in your quest! 😊

yeadonite 11-25-2015 10:10 PM

Goldberry - I think you are right but she didnt look 64! I wasnt thinking outside of Europe! I used all my points so I will not ever be flying first class again!

Curryong 11-25-2015 10:10 PM

Is this her?

yeadonite 11-25-2015 10:27 PM

Yep, I cant believe she is 64, I guessed mid 40's. She was in amazing shape!

nascarlucy 11-25-2015 11:10 PM

I thought about who this might be but I don't think it was Princess Stephanie (she's 50 years old) nor was it Princess Madelaine (she's too young early 30's). I can't really imagine either one using a commercial airline to fly to New York, though. Interesting mystery.

Queen Noor but she looked really young

Roslyn 11-25-2015 11:59 PM

Lucky you! How exciting to come across Queen Noor like that! She's a beautiful and accomplished woman.

Queen Noor does look very young; she always has. I know a couple of people who have been on a plane with her. Evidently she comes to the States quite often because she is very close to her American family. (I'm not sure but I think her mother might still be alive.)

Mathilde was at an event at the Royal Palace of Brussels the day before Thanksgiving Day in the US, so it couldn't be her. I suspect the original post may not be legit.

No, after a bit of discussion and an ID by Goldberry, I think Yeadonite has identified the passenger as the eternally youthful Queen Noor of Jordan.

Prince Alba 12-04-2015 07:58 PM

How many times does Yeadonite have to say it was Queen Noor before people actually read it before posting?

HRHPrinceD.J.H.W.G 08-15-2016 11:12 AM

Queen Letizia?

Your Majesty is usually reserved for a sitting monarch or emperor. Dukes and Princes are 'your Highness'
