Daniel has given an interview to swedish news magazine Fokus. He is on the cover

We can not go on like this
Large system errors allow ill people die while waiting for transplantation.

About the interview
A prince who speaks out with plain language!
Royals have made an art of expressing themselves meaningless. Nothing should be construed as criticism. Everything is nice and adorable.
When Anna Ritter interviewed Prince Daniel for her report on organ donation, he breaks with the tradition. It had been so easy to just talk about the great care he received and how well health care works for those who have been fortunate to receive new organs before it is too late. Instead, he focuses on those who are not as fortunate. Those who stand in line and are at risk of dying during their wait.
- We can not let practicalities and logistics prevent people to survive and live a decent life [...] It is simply not okay [...] We can not go on like this.

Three kilometers from the Royal Palace lives Jenny Stensson. She is 20 years old and her life hangs on that she very soon gets a new kidney and a pancreas and bone marrow. Her odds would have been much better if she had lived in Norway...

Prince Daniel is kind of my worst nightmare as arch-Republican. Royal AND reasonable.
He will of course for the pharaoh to rescue @ the Royal Family. Gah.

Part of Daniel's interview
To give a person a life back is the finest thing to do
Up to a fight. Prince Daniel wants to start a national movement to get more organ donations.
749 organ transplantations were made last year in Sweden. It should be much more, thinks Prince Daniel who got a new kidney five years ago. Daniel tells that when he goes to Huddinge hospital for the regular tests, he always tries to meet some of the patients. It is so strong feeling to meet people who have lived through the same as you.

Aftonbladet quotes the interview.
Daniel tells that the transplantation operation was planned for a year but he still did have to go on dialysis.
- It was tough but in a way I'm glad about that experience, it gave me understanding to how tough those people have who have to go on dialysis regularly, says Daniel.

Expressen quotes the interview.
Prince Daniel enters in the debate about donation
- I want to say that if you are prepared to accept a body, you must also be willing to donate, he says in the magazine Focus.
- We can not go on like this. Many hundreds of people are waiting for a transplant, many are undergoing tremendous suffering and many die while waiting for a transplant, he says.
Daniel is today feeling fine, although he's just like any other transplanted person needs to eat medicines to prevent his body reject the transplanted organ.
Prince Daniel calls in the interview rule changes and points out the rules in Norway as an example.
- We can not let practicalities and logistics prevent people from surviving.
He ends the interview in the magazine Fokus with an invitation:
- Today, 1.5 million Swedes have registered in the donation registry. I think that figure should at least be doubled. There are so many people who are seriously ill and need new organs.

Hege Kuhle, manager of the norwegian Stiftelsen Organdonasjon (Foundation Organ donation), thinks the Norwegian approach to donation is less daunting than in Sweden. Kuhle explains that their organization now assists the Swedish authorities by telling how they work in Norway. But she also says that they lack support from the Norwegian government.
- There is the same amount we have received over the last four years, so the public does not contribute much. We receive little funding from the state, she says, and thinks it is good that the Swedish prince is so open about: It's great that he stands up, and nice for Sweden. We think of course that it is very nice that he pulls us forward as a good example.

The court has also exceptionally put a link to the interview to their Facebook, and a link to Livsviktigt, a swedish website about organ donations. In many countries has been written about Daniel's interview: Norway, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands.

What a truly wonderful man he is besides being a great husband and father. I have had respect for him for many years now because he has seemed like such a likable person, down to earth, knows who he is and isn't anybody's fool. Victoria sure did pick a winner in him and I think this article and interview will help more people to realize that they need to donate their organs when they pass. Yes, I am doing that.........Sweden is so darn lucky to have him on their side.

I had Transplant Clinic a couple of days after their Wedding, and I took along a picture of Victoria and Daniel from the Carriage Procession to show my specialist. I also remember saying to him that the Kidney Transplant and Organ Donation Community as a whole, had just gained a brand new ally in the fight for more exposure for Organ Donation.

I have been waiting for this interview for a long time, but what I understand by the Google hash translations, the wait was more than worth it!!

Sounds like Daniel didn't pull any punches in his comments and WTG YRH!!

Also Congratulations to Daniel on reaching the 5th Anniversary w/his Kidney Transplant!! That's a big milestone to reach!!

Surprised to hear he had to go on Dialysis, as I believe that's the first we've been told that. Glad in a way though, as he said himself...He knows what it's like to do. Like Sophie and Edward w/Parents in a NICU, Daniel can look me or my Dad in the eye and say, "I understand what you are going through." and mean it!! Because he's been there and *knows*.

Here's to this being the start of things w/Daniel and Organ Donation because we need his voice out there badly!!

Daniel told about going on to dialysis already at the wedding interviews. He told that the operation was planned for a year, but in the spring 2009 he started to feel very ill and he had to go on dialysis for a few weeks before the transplant operation.

Stoppa pressarna has a collection of photos due to Victoria's and Daniel's fourth wedding anniversary tomorrow.

According to Twitter Victoria, Daniel and Estelle were today at a confirmation church service. Possibly it was Daniel's niece, Hedvig Blom, who was confirmed. She is born in 1999. And in Gävle, where they live, is a church called Heliga Trefaldighet (Holy Trinity), which is mentioned also at one tweet.

According to Twitter, Victoria, Daniel and Estelle were at Konsum (a grocery store) in Kilafors on Friday morning.
https://twitter.com/linaahlund/statu...71653789286400

Kilafors is about 250 km north from Stockholm. And only 10 minutes away from Acktjära, where Ewa and Olle Westling have their summer house, and Victoria and Daniel have there their little summer house Olle Westling built for them.

LadyFinn 06-29-2014 06:32 AM

Daniel was at the Ockelbo Summer Market on Saturday.

The swedish press has written that they can't have a dog since Daniel has allergy. Victoria's old dog died in 2010.

It's nice to see that Daniel hasn't forgotten his roots, he was at the Ockelbo Summer Market also last summer. The family has probably been having holiday with Daniel's family since they came from Iceland.

Thank you Lady Finn, I didn't know about Daniel's allergy. I remember seeing pictures of Victoria with her dog, it's sad Estelle can't have one yet she has the best father in the world, lucky little girl .....:smile::smile:

It is great that Daniel is very close to his family and that they all get together for vacations.....it will be a great learning experience for PE as she grows older to see that there is more to life then being a member of a royal family, she has such a loving family and will grow to be just like her parents which is a very good thing for her and Sweden.

Hm, please have a look at the dog of the Obamas. They bought a male Portuguese Water Dog, because one of the Girls is allergic and this breed of dog seems to work against allergies.
Of course - If the Major Problem is not the allergy, but the cleanness, then this may be a completely different Topic.

(btw, this does not mean ANY offence against dogs, I KNOW, that not every dog automatically has fleas etc ;), but in General it may happen that Daniel Needs a much "cleaner" environment due to his transplant in order to avoid health damages of any Kind).
