Royals and their Horses (November 2013 Informal Poll)
Welcome to the
November 2013 Informal Picture Poll
Royals and their Horses!
The pictures in this poll show the informal side of royalty. This month's poll features the animal probably most associated with royalty- the horse! Royals love their horses, whether for ceremonial use, sport, or just as beloved pets.
The poll will close on 30 December 2013. During this time you can discuss as much as you'd like about which image you voted for, as long as you say why.
This month, our Picture of the Month representatives had help in selecting their images with a small committee of their choosing. Below, you can see each royal house's representative (in bold) followed by their chosen committee members.

Queen Elizabeth II riding Burmese during the Trooping the Color. Burmese was given to the queen in 1969 by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. The queen rode the mare during each Trooping of the Color for eighteen years. Upon Burmese's retirement in 1986, the queen stopped riding during the Trooping of the Color, instead using a carriage to travel to the event, and a dais to inspect the troops. Reportedly, riding Burmese during the Trooping of the Color was the only time the queen rode sidesaddle, usually preferring to ride astride.

What a beautiful collection of pictures! :flowers:
Absolutely lovely pics, what a pleasure! Thanks so much for posting.
I have a question. Is it any special reason the Queen rode saddleside at the Trooping the Color?
Congratulations to the winning teams

Notice how large the figure of Napoleon appears, compared to reports of his small stature. Horses are generally larger than men of any stature.
