The President of UAE receives the traditional miltary salute and honors at Windsor.
And The Duke of York was given the duty of receiving and escorting the visiting head of State to Windor for military reception and welcome by Queen.(normally done by PoW).
Since Prince of Wales was not there, the Duke of York taking the duty was cool, contrary to some expectations that Will&Kate will be roped in.
So this shows that Will is not yet "promoted" to handling State Visits formally.
And one more good thing about this arrangement is Prince Andrew was very familiar with Gulf rulers so its good for both of them..

Very nice pics! What is HM the Queen doing to her hat and gloves in pics 12 and 13 of set 1?

I think she was talking and perhaps counting.

I like that the official photos were taken in the corridor at Windsor. The Queen & Duke used to use the corridors for official portraits. Windsor is beautiful but we don't get to see much of the Castle.

Counting what?

Andrew has done this duty a number of times.

vkrish 05-01-2013 03:56 AM

:previous:Is it? This is the first time I am seeing this. Maybe he does it more for Arab royals. But then Charles goes for Saudi king always.
And I have seen Anne receiving King Harald somewhere in '01/02..
I guess she being Haakon's godmother, being more close to Norwegian RF, was given that duty..Anyways, I like this diversification in BRF..

Talk about an overshadowed event ! I'm quite puzzled by this somewhat low key "state lunch" thing, a first for a state visit in UK. Maybe the Queen didn't want to compete on the tiara matter with her dutch counterparts on this special day ? Strange...

It's a short visit and I think it's more a business one than a state one.

Dont you feel its a bit inappropriate for the head of State to go to Clarence House to meet the Prince of Wales?
The Prince should go wherever the President is staying, and meet him, I feel..
Meeting the PM and Queen at their residences is OK, but even the PoW...:ermm:

Nico 05-01-2013 10:33 AM

Why inappropriate ? It's quite common to see the various Heads of States on visit being greeted by the POW at CH during their visit. They are received by him on their request, so the best he could do is to open the doors of his own residence for a tea.

This practice is quite normal. Previously, visiting heads of state used to visit CH to meet with QEQM.
