"The Queen at the King´s dinner tonight, I think that this dress is from Yuki.

Too bold colour for me, and it looks a little like a nightgown."

That's a quote from the previous thread... I like the color on Silvia, she can really wear bold colors, but she needs a gown with more structure. Not a winner IMO.

Isn't Juki the one who made the striking one-shouldered silver dress that Diana wore? That was way more successful.

Japanese-born and London-based Yuki (his label runs today under his full name Gnyuki Torimaru) is the one who made the midnight-blue tightly pleated dress Princess Diana wore to the Imperial banquet in Japan - in 1986, I believe. It was the occasion on which Princess Diana wore her sapphire choker as headband.
The designer of the beaded one-shouldered white dress was called Hachi.

Yuki's designs always feature eleaborate draping instead of cutting fabric in panels, he's frequently using fabrics he developed himself, and his gowns tend to have aspects of ceremonial robes and show traditional Japanese influence; for some, they're nightgowns or sacks, for others they're unique avant garde designs.
Queen Silvia has been wearing Yuki for several years now, and IMHO it's an interesting opposite to the very different kind of gala gown made by her other current favorite Jacques Zehnder. The gowns worn at the 2006 & 2007 Nobel Awards were by him. This one is not just hanging like a sack - if you look closely, the gathering of the fabric at the sides leads to a narrowing of the skirt, producing an overall V-shape; I also like the elongation of the sleeves, the long train and this strong shade of violet.
But as I said here before, with Yuki it seems to be a "You either love him or hate him" thing.

Absolutely horrible dress by Yuki imo... I hope she doesn´t choose a dress by him at Victorias wedding next year.

I love this color just not how it drapes on her.

Odette 12-15-2009 08:27 PM

She looks radiant and the dress is simple and elegant.
The Queen very rarely makes mistakes in her choices of clothes.:flowers:

This purple gown by the late Danish designer Jörgen Bender (a longtime favorite of Queen Silvia as well as Queen Margrethe and Princess Alexandra) is from 1991.
It's certainly nice to notice that after 19 years, Queen Silvia still has the figure to wear it, and the amethyst shade surely suits her... but this is an antique piece, outdated in style, which should be left alone in its deserved retirement.

 Sometimes my bad english play jokes with me... so at first I thought you meant her ametyst collar is an antique piece... then I thought you meant her dress... and then I thought you meant the queen herself

But its nice tho see the queen with her hair in a nice hairdo together with the tiara... I think its been to much hair down lately ...

princess gertrude 02-12-2010 10:11 AM

This is just, well, awful! The dress needs to be put in a museum or gallery or something and never be seen again on the Queen. I will say this, the color is very nice on her, but the cut makes her look about 40 times larger than she actually is.

NoorMeansLight 02-12-2010 07:23 PM

It looks to me that mother and daughter decided to 'co-ordinate' their attires that night and both picked something old-fashioned yet romantic. I find it a nice change - you know, just for fun! That's why I can't talk about fashion crimes or fashion police & arrests or shower curtains - let's not be so dramatic. Purple suits Q.Silvia after all.

Yes, she does look lovely. Something very Jackie O about the yellow ensemble

It's little too much yellow for my taste....
(but I have to admit that being a watcher of the Norwegian Royal family caused quite a yellow-outfits-on-royals-phobia ;))
The colour itself isn't bad... maybe a black hat/headpiece would have been a nice choice.

Opal 03-24-2010 03:54 PM

I like the black and white frock the best.

Boris 03-25-2010 06:22 AM

The 'black and white frock' on the unofficial Day 1 of the state visit to Brazil was actually a suit (old) in navy and white. Note the anchor brooch worn, fitting the naval colors and the visit to a harbor on that day:

The new yellow suit is indeed too much egg yolk yellow for my taste (although Easter is coming up...), but the tailoring of the jacket is absolutely exquisite:

Queen Silvia’s matching hat:

Another new suit on Day 2, this time in a good icy mint color and very sharply tailored, which I like a lot on her:

In the evening at the return reception for the hosts at the Swedish Embassy: A minimalistic new cocktail coat dress, very early 1960s - totally understated and quite elegant:

I really like all of her choices except the yellow with the matching hat.
She looks wonderful and so elegant.
