Engagement Period for royals
 

I am curious. Does anyone know which royal couples have had the shortest engagement period before their wedding? Especially couples with pretty lavish weddings?

I don't know the answer, but I will mention some engagement dates and wedding dates:


Princess Maxima 30 April till 2 February
Princess Diana 24 February till 29 July (sounds short to me)

I think Sophie and Edward have engagement peroid between January 1999 til both wedding day on June 19,1999

some mostly wanted wait longer or wanted short month

The Prince of Astrius and Litizia :( Ortiz

Nov. 6 2003 til their impending wedding in June 2004.

It seems that a lot of people are bothered by Felipe and Letizia's short engagement/dating period. My understanding is that they met last fall but really started dating this past spring and became engaged mid-fall of this year. That means they've known each other for a year before their engagement.

I know that's not particularly a long time, but I think as you get older and you become more sure of what you want and need in a relationship, there doesn't need to be years and years put into a relationship for you to know that the person you're with is the right one or not.

A woman I work with put 5 years into a relationship before the guy dumped her 2 days before a big family vacation. But the man she is engaged to now, they just celebrated a year together recently, but he had moved in with her earlier this spring when they only met last fall and were engaged this summer. By the time they get married, they will have "only" known each other for 14 months or so.

I know we can't be certain of anything in this world, but I really think that as you get older you are more certain of what you want and need in life. When you're younger, that's the point of dating, to see what works for you in a relationship and what doesn't so that when you meet the right person you'll know.

I would say that, in the case of a royal wedding, there is so much planning involved that it takes several months just to accomplish all the preparations. It seems five to six months is about the average time for royal engagements.

The couple announced their engagement on March 30th, not June :flower: .

Just remember, that's the offical engagement. I'm sure that some of the couples had been informally engaged for a few months at least. (I mean, I know they're royalty, but a huge wedding planned in 4 months?).

Yup. Willem-Alexander and Maxima were already 1 or 2 months engaged before they made it official :)

Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip:
Official engagement: 10 July 1947
Wedding: 20 November 1947
(but they were secretely engaged since the end of summer 1946.)

Even though royal weddings are grand affairs and most people wouldn't be able to put something of that scale together in a few months, I do think that their status as royals helps to get things done quicker. Connections and money can do wonders.

I agree with you Delineate! Royals don't have the budget that most people have and of course, most of the designers for these elaborate affairs would most likely drop what they are doing if they were asked to do a wedding for one of the royals. Good publicity and all. With the countless number of people planning the wedding, I guess it constitutes the shorter engagement period.
