Concerns about the increase in repetitive and ugly criticism

The Moderators and Administrators are becoming increasingly concerned at the level of negativity spreading across the Forums. From the amount of feedback we are receiving it is evident that many members share this concern. Whereas once the criticism of a royal was largely confined to the royal's home forum we are now finding that the same sustained criticism is being carried over to other areas such as the Royal House of Fashion and even the Royal Jewels forum. To compound the situation, this criticism is not only more widespread but many degrees more ugly than it used to be and, in the name of "wit" and "fun," has descended into the very sort of bashing we specifically prohibit in the rules as being unacceptable.

Not everyone has to like or admire every royal figure. However, the number of nasty and catty comments, the sheer repetition of the same negative opinions, the "ganging up" and "piling in" by certain groups of members, the offensive, insulting and snarky remarks, and the attitude of some members that playing "kick the royal" is a new form of online sport, have forced the Administrators to take determined action to protect the integrity of the Forums.

To this end a prolific poster of offensive remarks has recently been banned and several other members have received lengthy suspensions. This is not an attempt to turn TRF into what some call a "sugar board". It is instead meant to open up discussions that are free of the same repetitive comments and nasty comparisons so that members have a greater opportunity of presenting their views without fear of being shouted down by a small coterie of members who amuse themselves by stalking their least-favourite royals across the Board. It is also intended as a warning to those who take aim at their fellow-members with offensive and insulting comments.

Most of us were first attracted to TRF because of the friendly and welcoming atmosphere. We hope that members will be encouraged to participate more fully in discussions if the tone is generally polite and respectful and if the content of the posts they respond to has substance rather than repetitive or snarky criticism.
