Princess Grace's Legacy

Do you Think that she would've been Proud of the lagacy she left??

Her Children's Marriages.
Her Grandchildren (Legitimate and Illigitimate)
Her Widow's Life after her Death.
how her Country is Today.

I think that Princess Grace was a wonderful person , she made a great job as wife of Prince Rainier , but she made also some mistakes in her children's education, perhaps she gave an image of perfection that has made them feel sometimes inadequate. Prince Albert in particular. However today her children are good persons and each of them works for Monaco with devotion as Grace did !

I must say Grace did a great work for Monaco, but her last years she was unhappy. I don't know maybe it depends on the changes that happied in her life eailier: a few miscarriges, age-related changes and so on. I knew that she had always wanted to begin her career as an actress, but unhappily it did'n happen as her husband was against that idea. She really liked to act... At last, she was a great atress, mother, princess and a person.

:flowers: Ohhh, perhaaps she had unhappiness with the miscarriages and age-related changes but; I think she overall, was happy and content with her husband and familiy and children and would have remained caring and at least concerned about the illigitimate children as well.

:heartflower: Some of the "old" attitudes of the "era" were simply for that era and Grace would have handled it as she did everything else with at least care and concern. In addition PA has done more than the"right" thing in all those areas as well, so Grace would have moved on into the modern world.

:rose: She probably would have lived her life making the choice to marry Prince Ranier again because she did love the man, so the ups and downs that came with it were simply part of life. As far as the acting....

:rose2:Sure, she may have wanted to go back to acting. But, if she truly was close to the actors she has always been close with--she must have understood this one thing. Although, Hollywood even by todays standards, is still a glittery place to be-- the glitter and glitz of the Pss. Grace era is/has been simply too costly to have continued.

:rose:The Hollywood of Grace kelly era in "movie quality and content" were far, far different from the hollywood she would have returned to---had she bothered to go back to work. She would have in a likelyhood been far more dissappointed in that fact had she gone back to it. Let's face it the Alfred Hitchcocks of this world, whom mentored and hand groomed his certain few; are certainly not around much today.

:rose2: So, it was best to keep her good memories of hollywood intact rather than having the present hollywood shatter those memories. Imho. Who knows?? Surely, the one's whom were still in the business would have told her that, for certain don't you think so???

:heartflower:So, for Pss. Grace it's perhaps she understood that and those factors help her to seek out alterior channels to place her creative energy into other fields and creative tasks, don't you suppose so too??

:rose: As far as being proud of Monaco today? Indeed Monaco is one of the brightest gems of the Eruopean Continent.

She earned the world's respect

Princess Grace arrived in Monaco as a foreigner. She had to learn the language, customs and protocol of royalty. As Grace Kelly, she was accustomed to the paparazzi spotlight. As Princess Grace of Monaco, she had to learn new rules for public behavior. But most of all, she had to overcome the "stigma" of being an actress. Few foreign royals attended her wedding. The cathedral in Monaco did not have enough room for the dignitaries and royalty that wanted to attend her funeral. I think that one aspect of her legacy is the respect that many in the world had for her. She carried herself in a dignified manner and never brought shame or embarrassment to her adopted principality.

Scarlett Johansson, Leighton Meester, and Lindsay Lohan have all referenced Grace as one of their style icons and favorite actresses.

I remember one episode of Gossip Girl where her character, Blair, whispered: "I'm Grace Kelly, Grace Kelly I am.." in order to calm herself down, I think. That moment was kinda funny.

IMO, today the actress Charliz Teron looks like Grace Kelly the most.

I always wanted Albert and Charliz to get together

Her legacy if thought of as through the progeny left in time is excellent as Pa Caro and Steph are all very honest individuals and not painting themselves as some sort of royal icons that do not make mistakes and are infallible humans; I think she would have been proud that they care and are doing the best that they can whenever called upon. Moreover I am certain Grace would have been proud at how close they really are.

Princess Grace's legacy is what she accomplished.
Artist with her flower arrangements and flower pictures.
Artist with her film career.
Artist with her poetry readings.
Outspoken for family values and the importance of family.
Made videos for the Vatican and promoted the rosary.
Frequently spoke out against abortion and pornography.
Defender of her children's rights to privacy.
Successful marriage that survived the odds.
Loving mother, devoted to her children.
Perfect ambassador for Monaco
Beloved friend to other royal houses of Europe.
Founder of many cultural events and endeavors in Monaco

I could go on and on.............

As for her children's marriages, that is not her legacy but her children's legacy.

Her grandchildren (Legitimate and Illegitimate) again, not her legacy, she had her children after her marriage. The illegitimate legacy is that of her children.

Her Widow's Life after her Death. That is the legacy of Prince Rainier, not Princess Grace.

How her Country is Today.. Totally the legacy of Prince Albert, nothing to do with her. She has been in heaven since 1982
.

I'm afraid that Albert's wife will always be in the shadow of Grace's legacy. Probably it would have been better if had chosen a woman totally different from her.

Probably, yes, as we wouldn't have the press saying things like "South Africa's Grace Kelly" and whatnot. However, no matter what his wife looks like (whether it be Charlene or someone else), she would've been compared to her deceased mother-in-law.
I read/saw somewhere once that Grace said, "I want to be remembered as a decent human being and a caring one."
YouTube - Grace Kelly talks about how she wants to be remembered

So there's the answer. It doesn't matter what her children or grandchildren have done-that will be their legacy...but what Grace did. Her time in Hollywood, her time as Princess Grace and what she did with that is her legacy.

Okay she married into nobility not royalty Monaco is a principality not a kingdom.
Her legacy is a great one she wanted to help as much as could while she was on
this earth not too many people want to do that.

Elly C 10-17-2010 05:00 AM

Grace helped Rainier raise the profile of Monaco way beyond its size. That she was an American filmstar undoubtedly helped this, but her exceptional personal qualities enabled Rainier to create a legacy that still lingers today - for how long I'm not sure, but those halceon days will inevitably fade over time.

I definitely think Princess Grace would be proud of the legacy she left both in terms of the charities she served and helped to progress and in terms of the love and care she showed for her husband and children throughout the years. She devoted herself to her country and to her family and sacrificed a great deal in order to do so. She truly was an extraordinary woman and an extraordinary actress as well, iconic in every way. I still wish she would have been able to perform in another film though. I watch movies like "Autumn Sonata" and -though Ingrid Bergman did an outstanding job in that movie which was made in 1978- I know Princess Grace could have done just as well and could have given just as complex and great a performance if not better.
