Prince Felipe and Princess Letizia's Visit to Stockholm; April 19, 2005

The Princes of Asturias will inaugurate next Tuesday the library Francisco Ayala in the Cervantes Institute of Stockholm. The acts organized by the Cervantes centre, as a tribute to the Grenadian academic and writer, will count on the endorsement of the Princes, as an explicit support to his candidacy to the Nobel of Literature ( this is a proposal that is being presented to the Academy since 1996 and that receives a special strength this year of the IV Centenary of the Quijote). Francisco Ayala, who is celebrating 100 years old, is not only an outstanding Cervantin critical, but also the last survivor of the Spanish exiled writers, who would be somehow recognized by this Nobel.

So they will come to Sweden?

Yes, so it seems :)
The inauguration of the Ayala Library in the Cervantes Institute of Stockholm is said to be attended not only by the Princes of Asturias, but also by the royal family of Sweden (not official information).

Thanks, Granduchess and Larzen, for the confirmation! ;)

Here's an article about the inauguration:
http://actualidad.terra.es/cultura/a...ote_248343.htm

The Princes of Asturias and Princess Victoria of Sweden will inaugurate Tuesday the new Cervantes Institute of Stockholm, an act also attended by the writer Francisco Ayala, who gives the name to the library of the centre. Next Wednesday, Ayala will present his last book, The Invention of the Quijote, a compilation of articles and stories he has published throughout the years and that reflects his admiration towards el caballero de la triste figura. The work is published by Suma de Letras, with the collaboration of the Cervantes Institute.

Does anyone know at which time the inauguration of the Cervantes institute start?

I work right next to it and would love to go and see the princes and CP Victoria!

The royal courts website does not give a time.There is an event at 19.30, but I dont know if that is the one the Princes and Victoria is attending. You can contact the Cervantes institute in sweden and ask, here is their homepage, there is a phone number and it also says that is does not cost anything to be there for the opening events.:)

So, I called the Cervantes Institute and asked when the inauguration would start. They told me that due to security reasons they were not allowed to tell me and that I could try to call the court and maybe they would tell me. Very very odd. I thought that you were allowed to go and see the royals.

Elsa M. 04-18-2005 10:18 AM

Today Casa Real will probably release the official agenda for tomorrow, and then we will be able to know at least wether it is going to be before or after the luncheon...

Cissan 04-18-2005 10:38 AM

Yes, let's hope so. It seems it's after the luncheon on the Swedish royal court's homepage. I think it's really strange that the royal court puts the address to the Cervantes Institute on its homepage and says that the royals will be there but refuse to say at what time. Really odd.

According to the Spanish Royal House's website, the inauguration will take place after the luncheon.
This is their agenda for tomorrow:

1. MEETING WITH FRANCISCO AYALA;
2. MEETING AND LUNCH WITH TM THE KING AND QUEEN OF SWEEDEN AND HRH PRINCESS VICTORIA (ROYAL PALACE);
3. INAUGURATION OF THE CERVANTES INSTITUTE, ACCOMPANIED BY HRH PRINCESS VICTORIA.

Ayala will meet the Princes de Asturias today in the morning. After that meeting, Don Felipe and Doņa Letizia will go to the Royal Palace, to have lunch with the King and Queen of Sweden, Carl Gustav and Silvia, and their eldest daughter, Princess Victoria. Already in the evening, Princess Victoria will accompany the Princes of Asturias to the inauguration of the Cervantes headquarters.

Here's a picture from the official website of the Royal Court of Sweden, probably taken in connection to the luncheon that King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia hosted for the Prince and Princess of Asturias today. Present at the luncheon were also Crown Princess Victoria, Princess Lilian and Princess Christina Mrs Magnuson.
