Haakon in Minneapolis '05

Thanks for all the info Larzen. I wonder what areas of the midwest Haakon and Mette-Marit will tour when the visit the USA?

Alisa 01-05-2005 09:15 PM

They will probably visit states like Minnesota (large Norwegian-American population), Wisconsin, Iowa, and maybe North and South Dakota.

Dennism 01-05-2005 09:21 PM

And possibly the midwest chapter of the Norwegian-American Chamber of Commerce which is in Chicago but those other states are givens.

Thank you for translating the article. It's very much appreciated, and same with all the other information everyone has provided.

Do you think M-M and H will come to Australia sometime? I would really love to "meet" them.

Dennism 01-05-2005 10:07 PM

Thank you. This is unexpected. Anyway, Im sure they will make it to Australia sometime. 2005 is a busy year for Norwegians. Maybe in 2006. Then you can meet them and tell us all about it!

Is Montana part of the midwest? ;)

What about the Norwegians in Seattle, WA?

Dennism 01-06-2005 01:58 AM

Well, Plains state. Yes, Seattle. Make a detour to Bothell.

I just read in the Minneapolis Star Tribune Newspaper (3/30/05 edition) that Haakon and Mette Marit will be visiting Minneapolis in October 2005. It also said that King Harald will be visiting Washington DC sometime in the fall. He will attend an unvailing of a statue from the United States to the people at Norway at the Norwegian embassy.

That's what happens when you travel without a female target for the photographers. I think something similar happened to Prince Charles on his visit to Australia earlier this year. (In addition to being overshadowed by Frederik and Mary) It's so much easier to tempt the press when they can have photographs of women in different dresses...

Haakon's visit was covered by the local press a bit. His visit was announced but with no agenda printed. His visit was a very quick one. Not much time for public interaction. The Norwegian royal family comes here a bit as there is a very large Norwegian population here. I wish I would have know a bit a head of time. I would have tired to take off work, but who knows work is always so overwhelming. But it is nice that he came.
