Prince Frederik and Princess Mary's Visit to New York: September 17-21, 2007

TRH Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary will go to New York on a official visit. HRH Princess Isabella will go along, because she is still being breastfed. HRH Prince Christian won't go with his parents and sister.

suPeRgiRL! 08-28-2007 10:52 AM

What is trip about?

MissSaga 08-28-2007 11:17 AM

Ohh how great the're coming to New York ! And this time it won't be in the middle of the winther. Wonderfull, can't wait :flowers:

kaydura0717 08-28-2007 11:26 AM

cool I hope to see a lot of pics of the trip. Is there a purpose why they're coming to NY like meeting the Attorney General of the UN?

Duke of Marmalade 08-28-2007 11:29 AM

At least the New York fashion week will be over by then (Sept 5th - 12th) so nobody can accuse Mary of combining business with pleasure or including too much pleasure in her business trip ;)

I am looking forward to see them out and about as 99% of (at least Mary's) their appearances are fab (as long as Fred leaves his shiny or ill fitting suits at home). They make such a nice couple!

I think I read somewhere that they are travelling with a trade delegation.

It's only early morning in New York, and we don't know what time they were arriving - WHO only said they would be arriving on September 17th. I don't know whether we will get any pictures of them arriving in New York, JFK is a large airport and I doubt the press know which specific flight to look for as there are a range of flights F&M could have taken from Copenhagen to New York

It only says Crown Prince Frederik. So I'm assuming no Mary for the event. But that is just my logical assumption since she isn't mentioned.

UserDane 09-17-2007 12:22 PM

They have probably scheduled some breastfeeding at that time - since Isabella is with them on this trip ;)

Wonder what kind of jewellery we will see at the official evening events. I am so hoping to see the gorgeous Georg Jensen silver set Mary wore at a visit to Germany (the mere thought of that jewellery make me drool.....)

Aurora810 09-17-2007 12:22 PM

Do they have media people and photographers that follow them around from Denmark?

biboquinhas 09-17-2007 12:25 PM

Poor Isabella, so young and sucht a big activity around her! Dont' they have a private jet just for them or they ussualy fligh in regular airlines?

Aurora810 09-17-2007 12:33 PM

I'm confused why people are expecting pictures today and why the thread includes the 17th. According to the schedule there is no event until Tuesday afternoon for Frederik and then Mary later in the afternoon. I kind of think we won't see pics until tomorrow.

UserDane 09-17-2007 12:34 PM

BilledBladet will definitely be following them!;) There must be lots of reporters from DK following them - they are part of a trade delegation and I suppose it's all about media awareness and branding.

No, Biboquinhas, the royal family does not have a private jet.

Oh Isabella won't mind a bit,as long as she gets food and her dipers changed, she'll be sleeping most of the time. They do use scheduled flights regularly,SAS (Scandinavian Airlines) is used to having them on board,as well as any other Scandinavian Royals for that matter. They already arrived today:smile:

I doubt it! This is an official visit with events that are not infant friendly. She will likely be cared for by a nanny while Mary is out. However, the schedule seems to have plenty of breaks in it for Mary to be with Isabella as much as possible. If we do see her she'll be in an infant seat being taken from car to hotel or whatever. But it's not like they are taking her to and from their different appearances. That would seem very unprofessional to me!

BurberryBrit 09-17-2007 08:08 PM

I wish them a safe journey and can't wait to see photos of them.

It's sweet...;)

Nothing like an overseas trip to ignite the flames of interest and anticipation..hehe.

marmi 09-17-2007 11:54 PM

You and I seem to be playing tag today, Madame Royale ;)

And I'll say theres not. I love that they are traveling so far to promote Denmark, that it means beautiful clothes and jewellery, lots of photos, etc
I feel like such a sop. And yet I dont really care.

The anticipation is certainly building for me.

Lakshmi 09-18-2007 12:30 AM

I can't wait seeing pics. I'm so curious what Mary will be wearing. I feel she will represent Denmark in a very elegant way.:daneflag:

RubyPrincess168 09-18-2007 02:00 AM

I'm excited about this, although I don't think I'll see any photos in any newspapers around here, or that it'll make it on the news. I wish some royals would come to the World Dairy Expo so I could meet/see them.

pollyemma 09-18-2007 01:47 PM

I am a bit hurt that they skipped the Washington DC leg of the trade misions' US visit. Fred and Mary may think we're a bunch of cold, political bureaucrats, but we have feelings too.

Lakshmi 09-18-2007 01:54 PM

Mary's coat is very elegant. I like her long earrings.
I wonderd if they took their two children with them. Any info?

Mary is beautiful as always ..
Great coat, dress, shoes, and I wasn't too keen on the earrings first, but they lighten up the outfit :flowers:

Frederik looks really good too .. They are SO lucky they are staying at the Mandarin Hotel in NY, that is really luxury

And I don't like those earrings. They might look better close-up but from most pix they look positively plastic...:ermm:

christinacg 09-18-2007 05:13 PM

I like Mary's white coat. Can't wait to see what she'll wear tonight.

Must be hard for them leaving Christian back at home for 4 days.

cute video- frederik looks surprised but delighted and kinda giddy (real happy) when they come out. was there alot of people or were the press being loud and he is responding? just asking if anyone has seen photos of what the CPcouple were looking at (does that make sense?) thought maybe there was more people than he was expecting to see or something. it was sweet mary noticed the people behind them and waved back at them, then frederik points and laughs with them. very cool

Deighted to see the photographs and look forward to many more. Many thanks to those who have posted them.

Yes, it was lovely that she noticed the people behind them and turned around to wave. Very thoughtful.

I'm quite disappointed that we haven't seen more pictures of today's appearances by Frederik and Mary. I was so excited that I would actually get to see pictures in real time since I live a mere 90 miles from NYC.

madeleine victoria 09-18-2007 11:35 PM

I like Mary's outfit except for her earrings. It looks plastic to me and the color is that orange? She could have chosen better earrings to complement her outfit.

highpriestess 09-18-2007 11:43 PM

Hate the earings. They don't go with the coat. Hate the stiff stand collar on the coat. It's too millitary style and doesn't go with the feminine style of her skirt.

I'm curious to know whom they're waving at. There are people in NYC recognizing who the heck they are? One picture's caption says Mary was waving to "an Australian tourist". One Australian tourist, no surprise there. But who's behind Mary she's waving at? How does she know those people know who she is? Or she's assuming any New Yorkers would know her?

Chimene 09-18-2007 11:59 PM

I love Mary's outfit, especially the coat! It was a lovely afternoon today, and my new yorker self would have loved to be waved at by the beautiful princess.

Now Mary can't wave? Most New Yorkers probably don't know who they are but there was a small crowd around the Mandarin Hotel. An eyewitness reported that there were some people behind them waiting and that Mary just turned to say hello.

marmi 09-19-2007 12:18 AM

Has anyone been able to find any pictures of the evening event not by polfoto. I can never save them. I have searched PPE to no avail. (It cant be my day - I still havent been able to watch the news clip either but I'll keep trying). I have also tried Mary en Máxima!! but they've been busy with Prinsjesdag. And DanishRoyalWatchers have only got the day event.

If someone could put a picture or two into ImageShack or the like I would be very greatful, I dont know how to do that yet (1 step at a time).

Thankyou to anyone who helps, I'm sorry if I seem impatient - I'm just excited.

'You' arrive, get out of the vehicle and step onto a pedestrian walkway where people are standing around and walking by. Some call out 'your' name and others try to work out who 'you' are with the assisstance of perhaps someone who knows...they start waving and extend a smile so why would 'you' not reciprocate?

missjane 09-19-2007 12:57 AM

What i love about Mary is that she is not afraid to take a risk, do something different. Perfect example is this night time outfit. Mixing textures and using the same colour tone is a great way to streamline the figure and aways looks clean cut. I think this a great choice. I really like it, plus it gives me ideas too!!

I'm not the biggest fan of this outfit. The top is great and perfect for the occasion but the belt doesn't fit in. Even though she's mixing textures, the belt distracts the outfit. Her earrings are very pretty though!

RubyPrincess168 09-19-2007 02:38 AM

I think she looked great outside the hotel. I'd say those earrings are coral in color and brighten up her outfit nicely. Not to keen on the eveneing outfit though. The top is nice but I'd wear it with a different skirt and definately a different belt!

Danish TV2 just showed a short clip from Mary's visit to a play facility and she was asked what she thought about the place. Her Danish sounded really good.

After the clip ended the TV commentator said that someone had asked Mary if she wanted more children to which she had answered 'yes'.

Lakshmi 09-19-2007 04:25 AM

Mary's outfit looks elegant. Her jacket has interesting style, I like the choice of skirt going this that, nice shoes. But I don't like a belt. It doesn't seem to go with the style of the outfit. But Mary likes experimenting and very often she gets good results.

biboquinhas 09-19-2007 05:26 AM

I love this last outfit! It seams that Mary is mixing textures and that is all about fashion! Fashion is beeing different and elegant, and that is waht she is! I also love the white coat and I'am glad is form a Danish Designer!
I think Mary and Frederick are waving to all the people who are around them, some photographers other curious and maybe others who know who they are! They are beeing kind and even if there are people who don't know who they are Mary is waving at them and that is a kind gesture. Maybe later they will try to see who they are and they will be glad they meet them!!
I think we will get to see Mary, Frederick and Isabella shopping in NY maybe aroung 5th avenue or walking in Central Park, just like we saw the last time they were in New York!!!
In this link we can see where Mary and Frederick are staying http://www.mandarinoriental.com the rooms are sooo nice and the Hotel seams really luxurious!!!!!!

Sorry, I don't like the evening outfit at all. The colours are nice but the eye just focuses on the brown leather belt that looks more appropriate with jeans.

Not so sure about brown pants as it would no longer be the belt which provides the focus point, and that is it's function..when worn isn such a way..to excentuate the waist and provide an alternate division that although seperates the attire, combines the three in an almost layered appearance. If pants were to have been worn then a colour to match or closely compliment the top would have been an advisable choice :flowers:

I do think she looked gorgeous as ever though.

omg. that's so cool, i absolutely love the mandarin oriental in new york, in fact i was staying over there earlier this month. too surreal.

antonieta 09-19-2007 06:23 AM

I dont'l like the outfit that crown princess Mary wear at the night event. It makes her older. Sorry imo.

asturiana 09-19-2007 06:32 AM

Mary looked very good, but I don't like the blouse.

suztav 09-19-2007 07:29 AM

I loved the outfit but that belt! Too "heavy" for such a delilcate looking outfit.

Duke of Marmalade 09-19-2007 07:41 AM

Fantastic start with the white coat etc and if Mary had left that belt off the second outfit would have been great too. Sorry but the belt destroys it all, I mean she's not a weight lifter or about to go on a biking trip

Mary in general looks great, happy and healthy. Hope she'll pull off some more fashion highlights during their trip.

I have to agree with you, I don't care for this outfit on her either. There's just something about the top, belt & skirt that don't blend. Just a thought though, I would have prefered the top and belt with either a pair of jeans (for a concert or something) or the top and belt with a skirt that matched the belt!

I think Mary is a great Crown Princess. I must say that I was one that fell for the Charles/Diana love story, but with Fred and Mary it seems like the real thing. I think that she is doing a great job and she always has that royal touch. Great for you Mary! She is doing a great job for Denmark also.

Actually I think that she is doing a good job but the job that every crown princess has to to do, without anything of special.

*Princess Mary was swarmed by little girls dressed as princesses. They asked if she was a real princess. She smiled and cooed back at them playfully, "No you are".
thanks for all the links and video. they look fantastic. i don't like the belt with this outfit, it distracts from the detail at the bottom of the top and seems too heavy. i would have wore a thin gold chain belt, but who cares she looks radiant.
i love the fact prince frederik seems to enjoy the attention to his wife, in photos she clearly keeps her focus on him while everyone else is looking at her but he seems to adore watching her shine. it speaks of what a great team they are and his strong sense of self and character.

Me too. I loved the whole outfit! I think the belt tie in the outfit, while adding visual interest. She looks beautiful!

Taree 09-19-2007 01:34 PM

Mary's outfit

In the first ANP photograph, the belt is obscured and we get a good idea of how the outfit would have looked sans belt. Better IMO, but I like the idea that she likes to experiment, hence the belt and the look she was aiming for. I have many photographs and I've noticed that she seems to like contrast. Belts, hats, jackets etc. One instance springs to mind, the different colour of her hat when the portrait of her was unveiled.
She and Frederick are doing a great job for Denmark.

Oh I LOVE the outfit ! Gorgeous glittery top, and well combined with the skirt, and the belt is such a cool touch to the outfit.
They're doing such a great job.

selminha 09-19-2007 01:56 PM

Thanks lovely photos, and lovely to see!!!
Mary is very pretty and elegant.

sesa 09-19-2007 02:20 PM

I like the top, I like the skirt, I like the belt and shoes, just all with something different. all together, it is too much contrast.
If she is going to mix textures, which is great, I personally think it should all be kept on the same color scheme. That way nothing is fighting against each other.
Her outfit does look o.k., but the belt is fighting with the top and the top is fighting with the belt and skirt.
But that is just my opinion.

SueBarbri 09-19-2007 02:59 PM

I live in NYC and would love to catch a quick glimpse of Fred and/or Mary. Is standing outside the Mandarin my best bet?

So it seems! The shoes also look very similar to the ones she wore on that occasion..

There is a cute pic of Christian back at home in Denmark walking in the palace park with Mary's father and stepmother at the Danish royal watchers website. There is also a short paragraph that is cute to read. Just thought it was sweet! However, I would like to debate whether Ziggy is actually walking like the paragraph says.;) Seems he enjoys laying down!

I'm enjoying this trip of Fred and Mary's, nice to see some insight as to whom is helping to take care of Christian while they are away.

i'd think it's the best bet. you might want to look at the front of the thread for the post about time and events and plan accordingly. when to expect them to leave and return, if there's more than one entrance there's the problem of missing them, be polite and ask the doorman (he might not tell you tho) good luck
