Royal make-up mistakes

What about make-up "mask" on faces of royal ladies? Does anybody have some pics of royal mistakes and horrible looking make-ups? :flowers:

RachelD 09-08-2006 02:16 PM

Hi! Well, I think Queen Elizabeth had some close calls....
I guess it was too much face powder or foundation (don't know which), but her face would look really white...

Three words...OH.MY.GOD!! Princess Kalina what were you thinking woman??? That's dreadful!

There is a picture of Grand Duchess Maria Teresa and Queen Sofia and MT looks orange. I'm pretty sure she went overboard with the fake tan as it definitely did not look natural! I'll try and find the pic to post

 That was one nasty sun burn.

Sister Morphine 09-10-2006 01:48 AM

Her face looks like leather. That is so unattractive. She should stay out of the sun and apply moisturizer with SPF in it to protect her skin.

mirrjam 09-10-2006 07:45 AM

what about Mathilde on national day... she had the brown foundation, too thick and too brown, and very heavy make-up on lips and eyes. Not my favorite mathilde look!

Someone should have informed her that you don't wear bright blue eyeshadow UNDER your eyes, too. Also, she has sunken in lids, so it appears she has none.....eye shadow that bright just calls attention to it. BTW, who told her to match the eye shadow with her outfit?

I knew a girl in college (about 7 years ago) who wore her eye makeup much like Queen Beatrix..does the queen have a makeup artist? I would also wonder about a hairstylist, too, but she's worn her hair the same way for years and years, so I doubt there's need for an actual person on staff.

Incas 09-10-2006 02:44 PM

What freaks me out are her eyebrows: just look at the left side, it was tweezed half way across her eye. EEEH!

In the early 80s you did! The blue under the eye was supposedly to enhance the white of the eye (Diana was often doing it too), all eye shadows were that bright and everyone matched almost all the time their eye shadow and their outfit. Only in the 80s! Sadly but true. Thank God it's gone

That may have been the style for some people, but it just doesn't look good on her.

Probably many times you saw or will see someone who wore or has something in she or he doesn't look good - clothes, make-up or hair-do etc.

Mathilde1286 09-10-2006 08:46 PM

Mathilde had some bad make-up IMO at the dinner of the official Dutch state visit this past June...if anyone can upload a good close up of Mathilde. I think there is a really big closeup of her.

HRH Mims 09-11-2006 10:24 AM

In close ups it looks horrible. At first time when I saw it, it reminded me my begins with make up  Someone just should tell her that red lips (or darker color) + very dark eyes on brown basic look just horrible! Or to her stylist. One never knows, if princesses have their stylist

Salomé 09-11-2006 11:45 AM

I don't know, but for me Mathilde doesn't look that horrible, I like that dark foundation on her a and lipstick, it gives her a few pepps and tan,a and brings out her beautiful light blue eyes.

Many other royal women women used to put much darker or full makeup than her,and nobody says something, just because we are used to see them with that way of making makeup, and Mathilde used to put always very natural and soft one.

galuhcandrakirana 09-11-2006 01:14 PM

I would say that it is very difficult to know exactely somebody's bad or good make up from picture, the lightening and the quality of picture itself sometime ruin the real image:neutral: .

HRH Mims 09-11-2006 01:19 PM

I know, it's not so bad as some royal ladies, but Mathilde's best look is natural and she looks little strange with this. But as we are talking about mistakes not about worst make ups I think that Mathilde's natural beauty will make much more charm as make up mask.
I dislike Mary's recent make up too. you can see it here:
http://s2.supload.com/thumbs/default/is_12697582.jpg
Picture from isifa, originaly posted by ZZZ.

*SofiaM* 09-11-2006 02:12 PM

I think that's such an unflattering picture of Mary! It makes her look old. Which is a shame as she is usually gorgeous!! Again I don't think it's so much a 'mistake' but a case of bad lighting.

Princess BellyFlop 09-11-2006 02:12 PM

When we look back at old pictures, we all find them strange and we laugh or cry about it. One good thing: we all find that we improve with time and so does Queen Beatrix.

Mathilde1286 09-11-2006 02:59 PM

Does anyone have a good bad makeup picture of Maxima? I think she uses way too much makeup, especially dark blushes.

RachelD 09-11-2006 03:23 PM

In all of these pictures I could not help but ask myself..."What happend?"...
Especially in picture #2! Could it look worse because of the lighting? Because her face looks so much darker than the rest of her! Or maybe too much bronzer on the face?? Maria-Theresa has such a lovely natural skin color, why does she want to tan like that? It's also so harmfull! It brings on premature aging and can cause skin cancer...

Mathilde also needs to find the right sort of bronzer for her skin tone. She is fair skinned so she should not go so dark all of a sudden and only on her face...

HRH Mims 09-11-2006 03:39 PM

But you cant always throw it on lightening  something you just cant hide.
And queen Rania (she one of my most favorite royals) did (and she does) some mistakes with make up- especially with "eye effects"

I think Kalina didn't make a makeup mistake, she was being provocative by her clothes and makeup as she did always.

ZZZ 09-12-2006 11:22 AM

I cant blame them, they cant be perfect all the time. They might like it, we might not. we might think its too much, they might think they need alittle more. also, as royals, they might get ready an hour or so before the event, make-up changes after the application of it in a few minutes/hours. so it might not look like that before they leave the house.

I think Lalla Salma's wedding make-up was terrifying! It was far too heavy and garish, the foundation didn't match her skintone and the dark colours did nothing for her.

Are you sure it is not because of a traditional way of Maroccan bride make up. I know in some country they have a traditional way to make up the bride, I speak about the style and the ingredient they use in traditional make up.
For style, Japanese bride traditional make up has very white foundation (no mater the bride skin colour is not as pale as the foundation'), very red lipstick and they applied a very black eyeliners and eyebrows, but that is the tradittional way:smile: .

Little_star 09-18-2006 08:28 AM

I liked Rania's smoky eyed look at the Time gala as well.

Perhaps it is, I honestly couldn't tell you. One of the Moroccan members may have a better idea?
However I've seen photos of Lalla Hasna as a bride and she didn't have the same "white" foundation as Lalla Salma. Morever I've seen Salma with incredibly plae make-up even after the wedding.

I agree with you ZZZ,Rania most the time put a lot of eyshadows and blush for day time, that you can't see a differnce with a makeup for galas or evening time.

I understand Salma is pale ( I didn't suggest otherwise) however I do think she wears make-up that emphasises and enhances this, which in the end actually does little for her.

I was replying to suggession about if she put white foundation as a tradition like in Japan even if somebody is not pale, but this not Salma's case as she's very pale, and put the same white foundation like her complexion, but I do think that some blush would be better, but she seems not liking to put a lot of blush.

Incas 09-20-2006 08:24 PM

Depending on how well the photos were developed, sometimes the subject may have really good makegood but come across looking bizzard. The picture of Salma at her engagement looks to be heavy on the blue hue overall. She looked positively sickly.

if i can answer to ur question , the moroccan princesses are the only moroccan women ( brides) who put make-up that way , i never saw any moroccan bride with such a make-up , its not traditionnal ...personnaly i don't like the face covered with those flashy little things  i prefer the basic make-up

amina1 10-01-2006 04:33 PM

PSalma wore those shiny things on her first appearance with newborn PHassan too, with a green Kaftan, maybe it's a royal tradition, PHasna had them too on her wedding day.

I forgot about her Coronation make-up, that was very heavy! I get the impression that wasn't her choice, as it's completely different to her usual style; it was incredibly caked-on.

magnik 10-02-2006 12:33 PM

She looks in that like old woman in young body, very dramatic. Agree too heavy.
Sometimes she still doing mistakes but not so terrible like thi on the coronation.

I am not sure about if it's not her choice or not,but personally,I have the impression that she has her hand heavy on colors when she's left for her own,I am talking about her students days, with her blonde platine color hair and red lipstick, and sometimes still put a lot of blush and heavy foundation.

I think Rania learnt a lot since then, but she still can do better and tone it down.

madonna23 10-03-2006 12:35 AM

for me, it wasn't so much the make-up that was overly dramatic but the hair. i think if she had a better hairstyle it wouldn't have looked so bad. in other pictures for her coronation, her make-up doesn't look too bad.

I think there were photos taken after the Coronation. So although she was wearing the same outfit, those official pictures were taken separately because her hair and make-up was completely different.

Show me somebody who doesn't experiment with make-up or hair dye when they're young! I think you'd find that's pretty normal for most young women.

I agree with you magnik--> she has too dark lipstick and too white make up

Princess Maxima wears too dark make up. Look on her face and then on color of her neck: http://www.anp-photo.com/search.pp?p...2935030&pos=74
It makes her much older

HRH Mims 10-31-2006 11:44 AM

I don't know, but doesn't queen have too much of blue eyeshadows?

i think this is the worst, Queen Rania's make up was very heavy.

Thats too much make-up. heavy blush and dark lipstick. I think thats one of the worst make-up mistakes because that picture will be seen for many many years to come because it was when she first became a queen

For a queen and at that age, i think its too much. Does she have a make-up artist or does she apply her own make-up for the daytime events?

I think Rania learnt a lot since then, but she still can do better and tone it down.

Thats very true. When looking at pictures of QR when she first became a queen her make up was really heavy, but it seems she has learnt the less the better.

Yes!! Maxima dear, please stop the blush!!!

amina1 01-15-2007 07:38 PM

I think that orange colour she usually has on the cheeks is not only blush, it's also because of the sun damage she has on the cheeks,or the tant colour, so when she adds blush orange or brown, it stands out!!!:ermm:

What sun damage are you referring to? The freckles, you mean?

There really is no "spin" that would explain this, excuse this or manage to put it in a good light. Nothing! :argh:

I totally share Dazzling's opinion, concerning Princess Maxima's make-up, in general, she looks great.

Princess Diana and that gawd awful blue eyeliner or mascara she always wore; from start to finish that woman always had that blue ring around her eyes.
She is not royal, but I have to throw an honorable mention in for Pippa Middleton and that gawd awful orange tan!

I've always wondered if it was a "facial peel" that caused that look?

Diana stopped using the blue "ring around her eyes" in later years.

I hated Kate's wedding makeup.I wish she was more natural and toned down the blush and eyeliner.

Totally agree! Ditto, and Ditto again. Heartened to see that I am not the only one - its wince-able. The elephant in the room. With the wedding I felt like the Emperor's New Clothes - it was gaspingly awful - and with the veil pressed against her face - oh dear! Why was there no one to tell her? Truth is, maybe they can't - it's her way, William likes it, and that's that. Evidence of a strong will there - which is good, but...

A poster once suggested that she had a tattoo liner around her eye - ouch! But has she ever appeared in public - ever - even casually - without the liner? It might be true. We'll know in 5 years - many things.

Wish Kate had more flexibility - its always the same look - glam or casual - always the same.

I agree, I thought it was awful. Her hairstyle was also bad. Shame as she wore a beautiful gown and tiara.
