    The word "patrician" has modified its meaning through the course of history. Generally speaking the patrician means to belong to the elite in a given society. In such case, the elite could mean aristocrats, nobility (i.e., members from the class of military leaders) and the upper class that possesses inherited wealth (i.e., rich bourgeoisie). At the same time, there are instances when the word "patrician" became a vague connotation of the word "aristocracy".
