MAfan , it was the war , the Belgian men were or soldiers or prisonners , they were away from home and the King has a mistress, the governess of his children and she was pregnant. They marry first before church and then before law no-body in Belgian is doing that. She was never popular and the same for 3 children , Alexandre , Marie-Christine and Esmeralda. The 3 children of Queen Astrid were Grand Duchesse of Luxembourg and Baudouin and Albert Kings of the Belgians.
