Humera, I know it's chunri material, I was just pointing out that the kaftan comes in many forms in many different cultures.

I have perhaps a few silly questions -- what is the difference between a tunic and a caftan? what is a kurti? Thank you to whomever may be able to help me with that:) Last edited by Lillia; 07-23-2005 at 09:39 PM. |

lilla, kurti is an Urdu word to describe a type of short top/shirt. Usually it's worn with a shalwar, the trousers associated with Pakistani women. However there's a growing trend for them to be worn with jeans asthey go together so well.
"As the name suggests these are short top that go well with almost anything. Best paired with jeans these can be worn as casuals or elegant evening wear when one's partying." http://www.shrisidhivinayakcreation.com/kurti.asp |

Gorgeous dresses and thanks for the insight into the design and history of Kaftans.I especially liked the Amina Benmoussa collection. Lalla Meryam is the most stylish kaftan wearer imo.

Dear All,
This topic is one of wonderful tpoics I read through your brilliant forum. Actually, intersting in traditional dresses by high classes like kings, princes and alike is one of the main grounds that contributed in preserving its spirit till this moment. We have in Kuwait the same experience in regard to traditional drsses. National designers have been struggling to hold many shows either locally or internationally scale. This type of dresses, indeed, need to be developed through adopting others' cultures. This happen by recognising the purpose of the designer mission first, then, to confirm the importance of adopting beauty touches from other designs. I will provide samples of Kuwaiti traditional dresses which are full of embroideries and nice embalishments. All best |
