I think Ralph and Russo would make sense as it's a British brand. But I think she might go for something a bit more lowkey like Erdem or even Carolina Herrera!

I would love to see her branch out with Ralph and Russo. An unexpected house, and hopefully more stream line (no lace) gown would be fantastic. I know she has worn Erdem in the past but seems such a safe bet.

Carolina Herrera is not a British designer so I don't see her doing the gown. Perhaps the reception dress, as I could see her doing an American designer.

I scrolled through the Ralph and Russo designs and there are several which I could see on Meghan, with necessary alterations (sleeves or at least shoulders covered, color, etc). She certainly has a more sophisticated fashion sense than any other member of the BRF and I could see her going edgy like they seem to design.

Interesting choices, Sunnystar. :flowers:

Like this one lots. Very Meghan.

But there is something to be said for the billowy quality, creating an impression in a big venue.
Love the detailed top on this one, too. Lace? Embroidery?

Embroidery and embellishment (some beading it looks like, as well as some 3D flowers, a la the dress Kate wore to the Royal Variety Performance last week). I really like this one also and could see something similar with a longer train. Though, now, the more I think about it, the more I wonder if it would work on her since she isn't as tall as someone like Charlene who also wore a similar style of wedding dress.

Someone mentioned in the tiara thread that they'd like to see the Strathmore Rose tiara worn bandeau style like the Queen Mother wore it. Reading that, I thought that it may be an idea that if they were to marry at St. George's Chapel that its possible that they could go with a vintage themed wedding.

I think Meghan would look fantastic in a dress similar to this one I found. Its not your run of the mill white gown and its relatively simple but yet dreamy and delicate. The Strathmore Rose worn bandeau style would compliment it nicely I think.

I know it's not going to happen but I would love to see her in a gown with a skirt the same as that of MM. The sheer volume yet plain elegance always blows my mind. The way the skirt moves on the floor is like a swan on a lake with just the gentlest of a flutter.

I am totally bemused by how that effect was achieved with that much material and yet the gown had such a slim silhouette. Totally Enchanting.

Meghan gave some clues in an interview with "Glamour" on wedding gowns for her "Suits" character Rachel:

"It's not my personal style, because I'm a lot more relaxed than Rachel but I love that I got to play dress up in this gown. For TV we did have to bring the neckline up a touch per the producers request, but the original design has a low ballerina inspired neckline and I happen to love that.

Glamour: What's your perfect wedding dress?

__Meghan: My personal style—wedding or not—is very pared down and relaxed. Classic and simple is the name of the game, perhaps with a modern twist. I personally prefer wedding dresses that are whimsical or subtly romantic. Delphine Manivet and Christos Costarellos are faves of mine for their uniqueness and beauty. And I will always be a fan of Ellie Saab. J. Mendel is spectacular as well, especially for more structural designs.

Hmmmmm... I just checked out the latest bridal collections for each of the 4 designers mentioned and I suspect we are in for lace, possibly mixed and matched with chiffon or silk and other light, flowing fabrics. Color me surprised since her casual fashion style is more structural (J Mendel's spring 2017 bridal collection is the closest to that). While all of the designers have a few ballgown type of dresses, most are what I would classify as Bohemian chic. Of the four, I hope she goes with a designer that is similar to Elie Saab or J Mendel.

Off to research more fashion designers and bridal gown possibilities. :)

Beautiful description. :flowers: I agree: enchanting!

We don't know if she was looking at the current line of those designers.

The designers definitely all have some more structural clean line gowns. Not that I could see many if any of these for a royal wedding, but does give hope that she does have a more modern vibe feeling for wedding gowns. Besides, if she was going to go with the whole British designer, she would have to choose someone else. But maybe someone with similar style.

Delphine (French) some of hers are flowy but at least not covered in lace.

I know lace, but definite more retro vibe and not the usual lace wedding gown. Great keyhole back (right side)

Her interest in Saab is the only major concern for that would certainly point towards interest in lace.

Any design would of course need to have covered shoulders and modest alterations. And most likely a British designer.

Ralph and Russo or David Emanuel design wedding dress looks very good to Meghan

It seems to me that Meghan and Harry are very romantic. I would tend to think their wedding and her dress will lean to the romantic.

I love all these too!:flowers:
Love Stephanie's lace gown but I don't hope to see it on MM. I hope she choose similar approach to Mette-Marit's, Charlene's or Victoria's. Simple but elegant and well constructed.

I don't think the vintage look suits Meghan - she's much more modern in her manner of dress.

Meghan may surprise us all. :flowers: A bit ago we were fooling around with the idea of a destination wedding for the couple (much before the announcement), and the fact is (for Meghan) this is an ultimate destination wedding. She may well do-as-the-locals-do and go for the quintessential English princess gown, lace and all. Maybe.

Not only that but I don’t know that we really have a good idea of her personal style yet. We’ve seen her on Suits and professionally but not so much privately. She seems more laid back than some people think. I don’t think it’ll be particularly fashion forward. I think the dress will be a more classic and subdued dress but the dresses of other foreign princesses were rather plain to me although I did like Victoria’s and thought it suited her. I think Meghan could have something more romantic and lace is very likely to be on the dress. I love lace so I’m wouldn’t be sad.

Question: What does everyone mean by modern because I would say most if not all of the royal brides had modern dresses?

Modern versions of the more classic type I'd say.

LaRae

The venue, now that it's known, will also influence her gown. I don't think we will see anything like a traditional ball gown or even an a-line with full skirt.

My guess is a Modified A Line. I don't expect to see her in anything super fitted or anything revealing.

I agree there won't be a huge monster dress or super fashion/runway type either.

LaRae

I always struggle with this subject and thought about what sort of dress Meghan will wear and realised it was the same kind of thing I thought previous royal brides would wear and was always proven wrong lol

If we assume Harry will be in uniform, then Meghan's dress will need a certain amount of formality to it as well and so I would say it will not be a soft, floaty fabric.

Do we know how tall Meghan is? I imagine her to be quite petite and so I envisage something that is unexpectedly conventional in one way, perhaps a little on the safe-side without too much embellishment, but it will have an interesting design element to it such as the shape of the sleeves or neckline, maybe some asymmetry somewhere.

The silhouette will be quite full but not form fitting, but it wont be meringue-like.

I've been told she is 5'5 and also 5'7 ...so....

I've been following Meghan's style for quite some time - and she's basically classic with a modern edgy twist. That doesn't mean she won't do lace, but I personally think she will do something a bit more modern.

Although she does love Elie Saab (who doesn't), so she could still do something frilly and embellished. Though Elie is also known for really architectural shapes that are embellished heavily - but she won't be using Elie Saab, so...

I think Ralph and Russo are my fave options.

I'm wondering though ...might they do a (modern) country style wedding?. Since they are doing St George's and all the country around them and they've been said to love Windsor (aparaently all those country walks took place there)...and it looks like they will have a more laid back type of wedding....so that will certain influence her dress choice.

Won't Harry be in his uniform? That and "country" just don't mix.

Before today I was sure of it. Now I'm not positive based on what they have said. Still even if he does, many a military man married in a casual/less formal wedding wearing the uniform. It's done in the U.S. quite a bit.

Having now seen Meghan's engagement interview dress, I am going to agree with you. Meghan did not make a statement with her green dress. She wore the dress, the dress did not wear her. That dress was not front and center, she was. Coco Chanel would have approved. I am starting to think Meghan may bring a very subdued fashion sense to her royal role. We will certainly find out at the couple's Nottingham event. :flowers:

It occurs to me that up to now a great deal of her fashion has been dictated by her actress career, and the fact that she was selling a fashion line. What she would choose for a red carpet event would have everything to do with promoting herself in her career, or promoting the show she was acting in, etc. She's no longer doing that.

In many ways that white coat was brave because it did not conform to 'fashion perfection'. It was a coat, a nice one, clean and serviceable. It was cold and she put on her nice clean coat and tied it up. Done. She didn't do a fuss about what the camera would see. I don't know if I am right, but I'd be sooooo tickled if I was. Must wait and see.

We'll know a lot about her potential choice as we watch her outfits for royal duties. I am thinking she may not be a clothes horse as a royal, and wouldn't that be novel! :flowers: Definitely would mean a more understated wedding gown.

The hopes and dreams of all the fashionistas are crumblings to dust if they get yet another princess who *gasp* recycles and wears understated clothing!

I await the first time Meghan's clothing is called 'too mantronly' LOL
