just wondering about the dress - ownership

How did her family get possession of the dress? Why does the dress not belong to her children or the Royal family?

Cool

The pictures & articles are great. Thanks for all the wonderful pictures.

I think that it was horrid that no othe royals showed up at Princess graces Wedding.

Does anyone know of the excuses( if any) for their withdrawl from the event.

I think that was horrid.:(

This is truly one of the best threads! :) In my opinion, what's particularly fascinating, is to, this way, kindof see the 'older' wedding dresses up and close. For example, I always thought I did not like Queen/then princess Elizabeth's dress. But seeing it now, it seems the color is more ivorish/yellowish (I take it that's not because of its age?), very warm and glowing; the pictures from 1947 really didn't do it justice! And then, the Queen Victoria dress from 1840 is fascinating!! I once read here on our own forum, that when Lady Diana was engaged, she and the Emmanuels looked to the Victorians for wedding gown ideas. I can see a bit of resemblence of Diana's dress now with Victoria's: definitely there's some commonalities in the sleeves; the bodice, too.

Monaco was looked upon as a small and expensive resesort with a gambling casino. It's rulers were thought of as quarelsome, spiteful people who made news with thier outlandish behavior. Monaco was so inconsequential that some of her pricnes hadn't even lived in the country they ruled. When European royalty wanted to marry the Grmaldi were not the usual considered contenders. Monaco was a lightweight in the world of Royals.Queen ELizabeth II sent her regrets and a gold serving tray as a wedding gift. It was considered a snub and Prince Rainier was hurt. Queen Elizabeth did not even send a representative and that spoke volumes about how she viewed Monaco. Ouch!!

that really pity and no respect to foreign Royals! but i like to see more lots of european Royals ladies's wedding dress what she wores on wedding day but i respect HM Queen Elizabeth II for her reasons because the Monaco Royal Family had problems because Princess Caroline had previous marriages and Princess Stephanie also but Prince Albert never.

Well, when Princess Grace died there was representation from almost every European house. Presidents, thier wives, an archbishop from the Pope, Princes, princess' (including Diana, her majesty Queen Elizabeth II sent Diana), dukes, duchess' former foreign leaders and all of Grace's Hollywood friends attended. Princess Grace certainly earned her respect and proved the whole lot of them wrong. No one thought that Rainier & Grace's marraige would last - they never supposed that Grace would live for years under the strictest of protocol and sacrifice the way that she did. Not to mention all of the monies she raised for charities and the tireless work she put in as a princess. Rainier also had good representation at his funeral.

These pictures show the work involved in prepairing Princess Margriet 1967 wedding dress for The Princes Brides Exhibition at Het Loo Palace in the Netherlands. The restorer is working on the 5-meter long and 2.5-meter wide train covered with 867 hand embroidered daisies. ANP Picture

The images were reposted using Imageshack, to prevent the drain on bandwidth. Although, there is a problem with Imageshack, some people are unable to see the thumbnails, due to their computer setting. I am reposting the pictures that Catherine posted of Mathilde's gown and bouquet, in the form of links below. They should work now. If they don't, please PM me and maybe we can think of a solution.

The wedding garments of the Royal Family, exposed in Aranjuez

The Museum of the Life in Palace, which assembles uniforms, suits and objects of the different Reigns from times of Felipe V, has dedicated two rooms to Don Juan Carlos

MADRID. The uniforms and garments that the members of the Royal Family have used in the most important moments will be able to be contemplated from today in Aranjuez's Royal Palace. The most spectacular of all they will be, without any doubt, the wedding garments that in its day there shone Her Majesty the Queen and Her Royal Highnesses the Princess of Asturias and the Infantas Dona Elena and Dona Cristina. But together with them also there will be exposed some uniforms that Don Juan Carlos and Don Felipe shone in transcendental moments of the recent history.

All these apparels have been assembled in both new rooms that the Museum of the Life in Palace has dedicated to Don Juan Carlos' Reign and that today will be presented to the mass media in Aranjuez's Royal Palace by National wealth. Close to these rooms, also there will show themselves several works of art related to the Christmas that form a part of the Collections of the Royal Patronage and that normally are not exposed to the public visit.
The Museum of the Life in Palace, which begins with the Reign of Felipe V and includes several thematic rooms - for example example, the dedicated one to the fans of the Royal Family-, was ending with Alfonso XIII and now have been added two rooms dedicated to Don Juan Carlos' Reign in which there are exposed the uniforms and the gowns used in different institutional ceremonies.

Uniforms of the King and the Prince

This way, for example, it will be possible contemplate the uniform of general captain of the Army that the King shone the day of his proclamation (November 22, 1975), or the garment that Dona Sofía was taking in the mass of the Holy Spirit informed in the Church of the Jerónimos five days later.
Between the clothier of the Prince of Asturias there has been chosen the cadet's uniform that dressed in the General Militar Academy of Zaragoza, with that he swore flag on October 11, 1985, and the chaqué that dressed on January 30, 1986, when on having expired 18 years he swore loyalty to the Constitution and to the King.

To these historical gowns there add four wedding) garments that there shone the Queen, the Princess of Asturias and the Infantas Dona Elenas and Dona Cristina. In I make concrete, it will be possible admire the garment of silver satin, covered of lace and tulle, which there designed the Greek designer Jean Dessés, in order that Dona Sofía was shining it on May 14, 1962 in her matrimonial link with Don Juan Carlos in Athens.

Also it will still be had exposed by the public the wedding garment that the Infanta Dona Elena took on March 18, 1995, when she married in Seville with Jaime de Marichalar. In I make concrete, color treats itself about Petro Valverde's design made in organza about natural silk ivory with embroideries. Likewise, there will be exposed the garment designed by Lorenzo Caprile in Spanish silk and threads of silver, which the Infanta Dona Cristina shone when she married Iñaki Urdangarín on October 4, 1997 in Barcelona. To them there will add Manuel Pertegaz's spectacular design that the Princess of Asturias took in her wedding with Don Felipe on May 22, 2004.
