Well, if I had received a piece of the wedding cake, I would have eaten it all up in one go and kept the tin!

Did any of the wedding cake of the Prince and Princess of Wales {Charles and Diana} ever go up for auction?
The six-tier wedding cake of Princess Grace and Prince Rainier III of Monaco was decorated with Monacan and American flags and topped with a crown.

Peter and Autumn Phillips cut their wedding cake, which had been made at Buckingham Palace and was laden with sugar-crafted lily of the valley and stephanotis, with a military sword belonging to Peter.
Queen Victoria of England's wedding cake was about fourteen inches in depth or thickness.
It cost more than 100 pounds.
The cake was topped with a figure of Britannia with cupids at her feet.
Elizabeth, Duchess of York's 1923 wedding cake

Princess Alexandra of Kent's wedding cake stood over 5 foot high and was iced in a traditional Royal Icing.

Goodness, those cakes look scrumptious, even if some of them were a bit overdone. I don't like completely plain wedding cakes myself, even if it has become fashionable in the last decade or so. However, I just think cornucopias and birds on top doesn't look the greatest, even though I'm sure Albert and Charlene of Monaco's cake was absolutely delicious.

Okay, i don't have a clue about wedding cakes, but if you do have an extravagant one, at least cut the cake itself and not just a tiny plain one in front of the actual cake (i'm looking at you Albert&Charlene)

I imagine it takes some time to decorate those cakes, so perhaps they are hard and dry and don't taste very nice.
The fancy cake is for show, the plain one is for eating!
