Engagement Period for royals

I agree with you Delineate! Royals don't have the budget that most people have and of course, most of the designers for these elaborate affairs would most likely drop what they are doing if they were asked to do a wedding for one of the royals. Good publicity and all. With the countless number of people planning the wedding, I guess it constitutes the shorter engagement period.

I read an article which may be another possible explanation as to how royals can organise weddings so quickly. Relevant quote is below

Palace officials, who have to make contingency plans for all eventualities (preparations for the Queen Mother's funeral began in 1969), are working on the possibility of an engagement announcement next spring to be followed by an autumn wedding.

My guess would be like the English all royal families put into place these contigency plans so once the family is made aware of the engagement the ball starts rolling (so to speak) and all the minor details of the wedding is taken care of for the couple and all they have to do is make the decisions and approve of all the plans.

It seems to me that for second marriages the engagementtime is rather short. Don't have the exact dates at hand at the moment, but the engagement of Charles and Camilla was rather short, while the Belgian king Leoplold and his second wife were hardly engaged at all before they got secretly married, but that was wartime.
