I agree Sofia, she looks very chic! I really like when she has a fan with herself, and it's so hot in Bangkok that I guess she felt reliefed she brought it with her!

A fan is The Queen's accessory. She seems to have one wherever she goes!

Another picture of the King and Queen on arrival in Thailand.

Note that they have in their hands a traditional Thai offering: a jasmine wreath. These are given to important people when they come to Thailand, is a way to say "welcome" and to show the legendary Thai hospitality.

'Don Quixote' is Spain's literary gift to Thailand

Following is the text of a speech delivered yesterday at the Siam Society by King Juan Carlos of Spain, on the launch of the first Thai edition of "Don Quixote".
Within the intensive itinerary that the Queen and I have for our state visit to Thailand, this official presentation of the first translation of "Don Quixote" into the Thai language has an especially deep meaning for us, fills us with satisfaction.
A satisfaction that is united with the honour of having HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn here with us and that of being able to put into her hands this first copy. We appreciate her presence as a show of her affection for Spain and as a symbol of the Thai people's interest in our rich cultural heritage.

Giving ties a boost with ‘Don Quixote’

The Nation
Publication Date : 2006-02-21

Cultural, economic and military ties between Thailand and Spain will be given a big boost during Their Majesties the King and Queen of Spain’s state visit to Thailand on Wednesday and Thursday (Feb 22 and 23), according to the Spanish ambassador to Bangkok.
In an interview with The Nation, Juan Manuel Lopez Nadal said closer bilateral cooperation in these areas would be facilitated by the long-established cordial relations between the Thai and Spanish royal families.
In 1962, Their Majesties the King and Queen of Thailand made a state visit to Spain, while King Juan Carlos’s first state visit to Thailand took place in 1987.

Spanish royals arrive for coronation festival

Spain’s King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia arrived here yesterday for a three-day visit to celebrate the 60th anniversary of His Majesty the King’s coronation.
The Spanish royal couple was greeted at Bangkok’s military airport by Their Majesties the King and Queen, following which King Juan Carlos inspected the Guard of Honour during a ceremony.
The visit is part of a yearlong series of events marking the auspicious anniversary for His Majesty. The Spanish royal couple’s visit is also aimed at improving ties between the two countries, which have maintained diplomatic relations for over a century.
The Governor of Bangkok presented the Spanish monarchs with the Key to the City at the Maha Jesadabodin Pavilion before they proceeded to the Royal Residence, the Boromabiman Mansion inside the Grand Palace complex.
Today, many Spaniards still have a good memory of King Bhumiphol’s and Queen Sirikit’s 1962 state visit, according to the envoy.
