22 June, 2007 - Bhutanese policy makers, senior government officials and private sector executives were introduced to what is regarded as the oldest science in the world – toxicology – in an executive seminar led by Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn Mahidol of Thailand, on June 20 in Thimphu.
Her Royal Highness said that in the less industrially developed countries in Southeast Asia the main environmental toxicological problems being addressed currently were water pollution caused by uncontrolled industrial effluents and urban air pollution caused by traffic and industrial discharge. Uncontrolled use of pesticides also resulted in toxic substances entering the food chain and causing groundwater contamination. “Setting appropriate environmental standard for the whole country is one of the issues the regulatory agencies face when they are frequently faced with developmental challenges,” said Her Royal Highness. “It is important to recognize the relative ‘risk’ for the government to make the right decision.” But inadequate infrastructure like qualified trained scientists, equipment and facilities limited the ability in developing countries to conduct research for evaluation and assessment of risk. “Education and training in environmental toxicology, pollution control and pollution prevention is the corner stone of an environmental and public health management system,” said Her Royal Highness. With her designs on beautiful traditional fabrics, woven by an ethnic Thai Puan group in Sukhothai, Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha has saved this craft from extinction by donating new weaving machines and tools to replace the old ones, which were swept away in a flood.
To promote this art, the princess has designed handbags and other products combining modern embroidery patterns and Thai Puan woven fabrics. A princess-initiated cookbook entitled Recipes for Friends in Need of Pa will also be on sale. The cookbook, initially for distribution to flood victims in the Central Region, contains 21 recipes for local fish and vegetable dishes. The recipes were chosen by HRH Princess Soamsawali from more than 60 recipes prepared by Rajabhat Suan Sunantha University and famous writer ML Nuang Nilaratana, who has served the late royal cooking guru HRH Princess Saisawalibhirom. All ingredients are available from the foundation's flood victim rehabilitation project. Bangkok Post : Outlook |

could someone post images of the royal children with their spouses, former spouses and children they had with each spouse? with so many divorces, remarriages and long titles and names it's difficult to keep track of who is who and how they are related to the king.

Royal succession at core of Thai turmoil
22 Oct 2008 There is one simple but profound question behind the turmoil that has overtaken Thailand's political life from the military coup late in 2006 to protesters' occupation of the PM's office compound today. What happens when ailing 80-year-old King Bhumibol Adulyadej dies? Since he came to a discredited throne in 1946, King Bhumibol has worked diligently to establish the monarchy as an island of sanity and court of last resort in Thailand's turbulent and frequently interrupted transition to democracy...
