Default Thai princess' school donation

Thailand's Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn has given almost GBP 4,000 from her private savings to three Vietnamese schools. The generous sum of 232,000 Thai baht, which converts to GBP 3,710, was presented to the Vietnamese National Commission for the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and representatives from the schools on Monday (31.03.08).

Thailand's ambassador to Vietnam, Kittiphong na Ranong, said the money given to Ninh My Primary Schoool, Cao Son Secondary School and Hung Thang Secondary School, all in northern Vietnam, would be used to help grow mushrooms, raise pigs and build water systems.

The donation is part of a larger project titled 'Enhancing Living Conditions of Asian-Pacific Children and Youth'. Last year the princess, who is a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador, gave GBP 18,400 (1.15 million Thai baht) to the same schools.

Default Thai Princess visits orthopedic medical center in Germany

Thailand’s Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn ended her 7-day trip to Germany July 4 with a visit to the Orthopedic Universitätsklinik Heidelberg as well as the department for physical and occupational therapy. Her presence was more than diplomatic, as the visit portends future cooperation.

The clinic wanted to display the ability of modern technology, physical therapy and prosthetics in successfully treating patients that has been unavailable in Thailand to-date. In addition to her court and the diplomatic corps, the Princess visited the clinic with high-level representatives from the Thai Health Ministry, as well as orthopaedic and rehabilitation specialists and physicians.

The Universitätsklinik Heidelberg and Thai representatives are hoping the encounter is the beginning of a long-term, sustained cooperation between Germany and Thailand is this realm. The visit was arranged by a famed Thai chef and close acquaintance of the royal family whose son was treated successfully for spinal column surgery in the children’s orthopaedic department this past spring.

In addition to the Orthopedic Universitätsklinik Heidelberg, the Princess also visited Heidelberg’s famous castle which traces its origins to the 13th century and numerous scientific establishments.

Default HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Presides Over Opening of 10th Phufah Shop

Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn presided over the opening ceremony of the 10th Phufah Shop at ‘The Platinum Place’ on Soi Watcharapol in the Ram Indra area recently.

Phufah shops sell products from HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s royal career development projects.

HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn also visited the 2nd floor of the 10th Phufah Shop and graciously signed her own royal drawing titled ‘Thais Unite in the Year of the Big Rat’. Following this, HRH the Princess took a stroll around the shop to review the products.
HRH the Princess expressed her desire that the newest branch of Phufah focus on selling handicrafts from villagers across the country. She noted that her royal drawings and stories, also on sale, are only part of the products available.
The 10th Phufah Shop is now open for business. Conscientious shoppers, remember there is also a little coffee corner here for you to rest your aching limbs…

In another forum, I have written the following under another name. It is just an analysis and not meant to offend any party:

I think HRH Princess Sirindhorn is a most beautiful woman. She is intelligent, compassionate, kind hearted, hardworking, down-to-earth and has a wonderful sense of humour. She had always maintained that being royalty is a privilege, the benefits of which she, as a recipient of that privilege, must pass on to the people at every opportunity. And it is quite clear that she is not merely paying lip service to this principle. She lives and breathes this belief. In her 53 years thus far, she has given herself to her people. What more could anyone ask from this examplary woman? She has in fact done more than her fair share. For me, such a remarkable human being is truly admirable and sacred and is much more beautiful than all the beauty queens in the world combined. May she live long, healthy and happily.

HRH Princess Sirindhorn is qualified to succeed His Majesty to the throne, both by the strength of her character and education as well as by the laws of Thailand. Thai succession law had been changed some years back to allow females to assume the throne. However, what most people are uneasy about is the fact that there is a strong male primogeniture tradition in Thailand and despite laws allowing HRH Princess Sirindhorn to succeed His Majesty the King and despite the unstoppable wave of love for her in Thailand, there is a reluctance, though expressed together with much regret, to bypass a male heir. However, if such considerations play an important part, those holding on to the said tradition would certainly want to consider the age-old prophecy that the Chakri dynasty will only have nine kings and if there is a tenth, it will not bode well for the dynasty, Thailand and Thais. As I see it, if the next monarch is a Queen, the prophecy would be circumvented along with all the predicted negative impacts. The natural choice, in that case, would be HRH Princess Sirindhorn, under whose reign Thailand will continue to soar to greater heights from the strong foundation already created by His Majesty the King. Both by merits and by tradition and beliefs, HRH Princess Sirindhorn appears to be the most suitable choice for succession.

And what of future succession plans? HRH Princess Sirindhorn does not have a child to whom she could pass the throne and even if she does, considering that she is female, how could the Chakri line be preserved? Well, still bearing the prophecy in mind and more importantly, taking into account merits, talents and abilities, the next natural choice to succeed HRH Princess Sirindhorn is HRH Princess Bajrakitiyabha. HRH Princess Sirindhorn had earlier assumed the responsibility for the upbringing of HRH Princess Bajrakitiyabha and the latter has bloomed into a very able young woman. The fact that she is His Majesty The King's eldest grandchild and born to a full set of royal parents is a bonus.

With such candidates in the bag, the future looks glaringly bright for Thai monarchy and the country. The candidates are right there for picking and they are not going anywhere. If the Thais would only take the initiative to pick them, the fruit that they will reap in the future would be abundant and rewarding indeed. His Majesty the King, with all his wisdom, must have already realised all these long ago. The appointment of HRH Princess Sirindhorn as the next monarch is a win-win-win situation for the country, the people and the monarchy. The country continues to have a stabilising figure, the people continues to enjoy the leadership of a compassionate and wise monarch and the monarchy avoids decline.
