Does anyone know why is the Queen involving in a lot of visits which are regarded as "State Visits" while the King is staying away in Thailand? Is she paying the visits on behalf of him?I don't think i have seen him on State Visits for a long time.

For the Rassia visit, Her majesty paid on behalf of HM the King, as well as the visit to China in October 2000.

The last State Visit of HM the King was the visit to Laos in November 1994.

In the early period, HM intentionally don't want to go out of The Kingdom of Thailand. His Majesty once said (as i remember to his foreign friend) that, “My place in this world is in the midst of my people, all the people of Thailand.”. So he did take any state visit any more. But as time pass, I think the reasons are almost about his age and health.

Coastal patrol boats launched by royals

The Royal Thai Navy is preparing to present three brand-new coastal patrol boats to His Majesty the King in honour of his 80th birthday and in recognition of his considerable shipbuilding talent.

Her Majesty the Queen and HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn yesterday (Sep 7,2007) attended a ceremony to launch two of the new patrol boats at Marsun Co's dockyard in Samut Prakan's Muang district.

Also attending were Privy Council President Prem Tinsulanonda, Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont, Navy chief Admiral Sathiraphan Keyanont and Army chief General Sonthi Boonyaratglin.

The ceremony combined both Thai and Western elements.

It began with a blessing by monks, and then the Princess anointed the Tor 992 and Tor 993 boats. After that, Her Majesty cut a rope so champagne bottles could swing onto the bows of the boats and send them floating down the Chao Phya River.

Many captains from France, the United Kingdom and the United States witnessed the launch.

Her Majesty told Sathiraphan that His Majesty liked the three boats very much. "They have done better than what have been required. Thailand's shipbuilding industry can advance further".

Sathiraphan said the boats would be adorned with decorative lights when they sail to Klaikangwon Palace in Prachuap Khiri Khan on His Majesty's birthday.

Sea of yellow for King at Giant Swing

His Majesty the King yesterday presided over the official inauguration of the refurbished Giant Swing.

The iconic structure has stood in the capital since 1784.

Cries of "Long Live Their Majesties and Her Royal Highness" resounded around the vicinity of the Giant Swing as
His Majesty, HM Queen Sirikit and HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn arrived for the ceremony at around 5pm.

Arriving at the Giant Swing, His Majesty proceeded to a pavilion to pay respects to a Buddha statue. He then lit candles and incense sticks before assigning the chief Brahmin priest of Devasatan Temple, Phra Raja Gura Vamadevamuni, to pay homage to sacred statues at the temple with lit offerings. The Devasatan Temple is located close to the Giant Swing.

According to Phra Raja Gura Vamadevamuni, HM King Phraphutthayotfa Chulalok the Great (King Rama I) had the Giant Swing erected to remind his people about being cautious.

In Brahmin belief, after the god Brahma created the earth, he invited the god Shiva to test its strength. The test involved two big mountains, which are represented by the two poles of the Giant Swing.

His Majesty sprinkled holy water on the refurbished Swing and pink rayon bands were tied around it. He then presented offerings to monks and poured ceremonial water.

Apirak, on behalf of the BMA, presented a scale 1:25 model of the Giant Swing. The model is made of gold teakwood from the same trees that were used in the renovation of the Swing.

Later, His Majesty visited a nearby exhibition about the Giant Swing. At around 6pm, Their Majesties the King and the Queen and the princess returned to the palace.

Apirak later quoted His Majesty as saying, "So many people showed up … The weather is nice. There is no rain".

Apirak said His Majesty also recounted that he had witnessed the Swing ritual before and had asked when it was discontinued.

Asked by reporters whether the Swing ritual would be resumed, Apirak said, "We will leave this to the chief Brahmin priest to decide".

Members of Thai Royal Family went to visit His Majestry at Siriraj Hospital.
I see there's no mention of Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn & Proincess Srirasmi if the kings health problems were really serious I would have expected them to be visiting.
Perhaps it's the media distorting the seriousness of the problem

King to leave hospital today - 07-11-2007

His Majesty has made a 'significant recovery'

His Majesty the King has made a significant recovery from his illness and will be discharged from Siriraj Hospital today, 25 days after he was admitted, the Royal Household Bureau announced last night.

The statement said medical treatment and continued regular physical exercise have enabled His Majesty to steadily regain his strength.

The King had suffered from weakness to the right side of his body.
He is now able to walk a short distance without the aid of a walker.

The inflammation in his intestine has also been completely cured and His Majesty can return to Chitralada Palace today, the statement said.

The Committee of Royal Physicians has recommended His Majesty continue with the exercises until the strength of his muscles is fully restored.

Earlier, test results showed his blood chemistry profile was normal and his general condition was good.

The King has expressed his appreciation and thanks for the goodwill shown by members of royalty in and outside the country, by diplomats, the clergy, foreign visitors and the thousands of people in general who have sent get-well messages, the announcement said.

Earlier in the day, the bureau confirmed the steady improvement of His Majesty's physical strength.

His doctors reported that the King was continuing to exercise, had regained more strength and was able to walk a short distance without support. His Majesty could also eat normal meals.

The King was admitted to the hospital for treatment on Oct 13.

Meanwhile, police were preparing for the King's return to his palace today.

A Metropolitan Police Bureau source said it was expected His Majesty would leave the hospital at 11am.

His Majesty wanted to keep his return to the palace a private matter. He does not want police mobilised to increase security around him. Nor should people crowd places where His Majesty will pass when returning to Chitralada Palace, the source said.

Thai commentators said pink first became an important colour for him earlier this year, when royal astrologers determined it was a good colour for his health. On that recommendation, a pink royal crest was designed for his 80th birthday on 5 December.

Let's get the shirt protocol correct! From the BBC link:

Since King Bhumibol's 60th anniversary on the throne in 2006, many Thais have worn bright yellow shirts every Monday, because that was the day of the week on which he was born.

So it's the yellow shirt on Monday and pink every other day to honour the King. Very sweet. :)

Yes. I agree. I'm amazed about the Asian Royalism. I think it is better than Western one of our days, where Western Princess seems to be more entrerprises employés than Royals.

I really admires Thai people, and how much they loves their King. I wish that His Majesty Bhumibol could live many years yet. It was amazing to me and a very emotional experience, to see pics and videos of Thai people cheering the Monarchic system.

God Bless King Bhumibol and Queen Sirikit..But also the fantastic and great Thai people who makes possible the Moarchic reality. I'm very moved.:crown5::heart2:

Lavish praise for exhibition of Thai art

The fifth Arts of Kingdom exhibition has won praise from Her Majesty the Queen, who presided at its opening yesterday.

Published on December 19, 2007

Her Majesty viewed the exhibition and declared she was pleased at the work on display. The exhibition is put on by the Support Foundation and features impeccable craftsmanship by royal artisans.

"It's amazing to see such beautiful work made by our farmers. I'd love to see these works displayed in a museum so future generations can

learn about our culture," she said.

The exhibition, at the Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall at Dusit Palace, is dedicated to His Majesty the King's 60 years on the throne and his 80th birthday.

There is a showcase of exceptional works from the foundation's training centre at Chitralada Palace. Ten new masterpieces, exclusively created for this year's event, include the Golden Pudtan Throne, the Golden Royal Palanquin, a model of the royal barge Suphannahongse, cloth partition screens embroidered with mythical scenes and a carved half-dragon-half-horse inlaid with precious stones.

It is open to the public until January 13. The exhibition is open between 10am and 6pm. The entrance fee is Bt100, and Bt50 for students in uniform. Visitors are requested to dress conservatively and women asked to wear a dress or skirt. Photography is not permitted.
