Swedish King sends flowers to His Majesty

A representative of King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden was among the steady stream of people from all walks of life offering get-well messages for His Majesty the King at Siriraj Hospital Monday.

Sweden's political and cultural affairs councillor to Thailand Ann Lundgren delivered the message from King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia.

She explained their majesties had asked embassy staff to deliver their hopes for His Majesty's speedy recovery and continued good health.

The royal couple also presented His Majesty with flower vases.

Queen 'fine' after surgery

The second eye operation on Her Majesty the Queen was successful, the Royal Household Bureau said yesterday.

The Queen had surgery on June 25 on her right eye to repair a torn retina and remove a cataract.

The second operation, performed on Sunday, came after doctors found another small tear in the same eye during a routine check-up last week, the bureau said.

The result of the second operation was satisfactory and the Queen has already left the hospital. She has been advised to put off royal duties for six weeks to recuperate, it said.

Meanwhile, the bureau said His Majesty the King's condition is improving and doctors have advised him that he is free to change positions at his own discretion.
In the 14th statement on the King's lumbar spinal stenosis surgery, the bureau said the doctors have agreed the King's muscles are now strong enough to permit free movement.

King's Health

Well-wishers flock to Siriraj to see King

Despite yesterday's heavy rain, a steady flow of well-wishers arrived at Siriraj Hospital to offer His Majesty the King their regards for a speedy recovery.

The Royal Household Bureau reported in its 15th statement yesterday that His Majesty was continuing to recover well from his spinal surgery; that his wound had healed to his doctors' satisfaction; and that his muscles were growing stronger with the help of physiotherapy.

Portraits of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Her Majesty Queen Sirikit of the Kingdom of Thailand.
Both portraits are painted by Mr. Jakraphan Posayakrit, The National Artist, and are scanned from Ploy Kam Petch Magazine.

In June, Thai Newspaper reported that Mr. Jakraphan has been assigned by the Royal House Bereau to paint Their Majesty's portraits for the decoration in the New Throne Hall ( The Throne hall that had been used to hold the Banquet on the recent celebration). But I'm not sure whether they are these Portriats or not.

A crowd of well-wishers gathered at the hospital and along the roadside from the hospital to the Chitralada Villa to pray for their beloved monarch for a speedy recovery. They donned yellow outfits to show their love and great respect to the 78-year-old King Bhumibol.

BELOVED MOTHER
Millions of Thais to wish benevolent Queen a joyous 74th birthday

Millions of Thais are sending their best wishes to Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, who turns 74 today with the entrenched status as the beloved "Mother of the Land".

Through her tireless devotion to her people and inspirational tenderness over the past several decades, it comes as no surprise that people are now sporting light-blue shirts as a tribute to their beloved Queen.
Their prayers are also with her as she recuperates from an eye operation, which prevented her from delivering her usual televised birthday speech this year.

Her Majesty is truly a mother figure. Besides her many royal projects like the Support Foundation for the well-being of her people, she has always reached out to those in need.
(...)
HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn describes her mother as the "Mother of the Nation".

"Though she is against extravagance, she has spent unstintingly on education and books because they are about knowledge. Knowledge allows us to work for people and for the country," the Princess wrote.

In her book, the Princess recounted how her mother had granted scholarships to disadvantaged students and how she sent ill people to hospitals and picked up their medical bills.
Their Majesties also had their accompanying doctors treat the sick they met during their visits upcountry.

"Mum is my first teacher … she has given me the attitudes that usefully guide my life," the Princess said.

Thailand mulls "royal province" to honour king
Thailand is to consider creating a new "royal province" to honour the nation's revered King Bhumibol Adulyadej, the government's spokesman said.

The naming of a new province, centered around the seaside palace where the king spends most of his time, would be a birthday gift to the monarch when he turns 80 in December 2007, spokesman Surapong Suebwonglee told reporters.
"The cabinet has asked the interior ministry to do a feasibility study to create a new province to commemorate the king's 80th birthday," Surapong said...........................

I think that about the goverment but who knows what happen.
But there's wrote that "It is unclear who is in control in Bangkok, where tanks are surrounding government headquarters and the royal palace. [...] the coup seekers are loyal to the Thailand's long-reigning King Bhumibol Adulyadej. Troops on the street were donning yellow ribbons on their weapons, a sign of loyalty to the Thai king." Maybe nothing happen.

Basically, the military have overthrown the Prime Minister, not the King. Whichever side wins is extremely supportive of the King and everyone in Thailand is currently looking to Bhumibol to show some sort of indication of how the Thai people should feel. Of course, the latest news is that the King was in on this but remember, the King is extremely popular, he's revered and he's seen as a symbol of unity. This coup was to get rid of the Prime Minister. Although the military coup leaders have suspended the constitution, they've said that they will make arrangements for an election and a new Prime Minister can be elected so it's only temporary. But King Bhumibol is the most important person in all of this - he's the only one the people have as a definate leader at the moment. But don't worry - Bhumibol and his family are totally safe. The military leaders took over the TV and radio stations and kept saying "We are the only ones loyal to the King" and on TV, they showed slideshows of pictures of Bhumibol and Sirikit, so they're safe - but if this turns into something bigger, some people might question the King's role in it all. It's all so unclear at the moment that it's difficult to assess what's going on.

For anyone worried about the King, this is what the military leaders have said in their statements about him;

Quote:
The revolution body thus needs to seize power. We have no intention to rule but to return the power to the people as soon as possible, to preserve peace and honour the King who is the most revered to all Thais.

Quote:
Independent agencies and organisations have been dominated by politics and unable to fulfil the objectives as stipulated in the constitution of the Kingdom of Thailand. Consequently, political activities have encountered numerous problems and obstacles. Frequently, the dignity of the Thai people's king was affected.
Quote:
It is necessary for the Administrative Reform Group under the Democratic System with the King as the Head of State, comprising commanders of the armed forces and the National Police Bureau, to seize national administrative power from now on.
Quote:
In so doing, the Administrative Reform Group under the Democratic System with the King as the Head of State wishes to reaffirm that it has no intention to become the administrators of the country.
Quote:
The administrative power under the democratic system with the king as the head of the state will be returned to the Thai people as quickly as possible in order to maintain peace and order and preserve national stability, as well as to uphold the beloved institution of the monarchy of all the Thai people.
It seems that one of the big things here is that Thaksin Shinawatra stands accused of corruption and the military leaders feel that this is an insult to the King so they're removing him and replacing someone who will respect the King and the Thai people.

Vanesa.
This is not the first coup to oust prime minister in Thailand and the situation is totally different with Iran. Like now The king and Queen is in Chitlada Palace and met the leader of the coup last night. The crown prince and his wife is in the south of Thailand for supporting people who suffur from the bomb few days ago. Princess Sirindhorn is in France. Princess Siribha is in Chiangmai as she is restoring temple. I think princess chulabhorn is at her lab near Bangkok and Princess Siriwanwaree should have final exam this week so I believe all other minor RF are also in Bangkok (except Princess Ubolratana's daughters who are studying in UK and US). They are all safe and be respected by Thai all the time. On TV like now broadcasts documentaries about the king or play his songs. I think this is the sign of military's loyalty.
