Crown Prince to pilot charity jet

HRH Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn, wearing his commercial pilot's uniform.

HRH Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn will pilot a Thai Airways jetliner on a special flight between Bangkok and Chiang Mai early next month to raise funds for victims of violence in the deep South and of the recent floods. Part of the proceeds will go to buy equipment for hospitals in Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat provinces.

THAI has already received cheques for 30 seats on the Royal Charitable Flight costing passengers a million baht each, sources said.

Khunying Praneetsin Watcharaphol of Thai Rath, Thanpuying Lersak Sombatsiri of the Park Nai Lert Raffles Hotel, Bangkok Airways founder Prasert Prasarttong-Osoth, Bangkok Governor Apirak Kosayodhin and Deputy Transport Minister Sansern Wongcha-um will be among those on the flight leaving Bangkok on Jan 5 and returning from Chiang Mai on Jan 6.

Also joining the flight are Their Royal Highnesses Princess Srirasm, Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana and Prince Dipangkorn Rasamijoti, along with Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont.

To create a special atmosphere, THAI has decided to make only 100 seats available on the B737-400, which can normally carry 149 passengers.
The Crown Prince flew fighter planes before training to pilot commercial aircraft at THAI over the last two years. As part of his training, he flew commercial flights for THAI on domestic routes.
Overnight, passengers will lodge at a five-star hotel in Chiang Mai, attend a royal gala dinner, and receive a commemorative pin, to be personally presented by the Crown Prince.

Crown Prince flies for charity

http://www.bangkokpost.co.th/breakin....php?id=115773
(BangkokPost.com from agency reports)

His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn put his commercial pilot training to charitable use today when he captained a Thai Airways International Boeing 737-400 jet from Bangkok to Chiang Mai to raise funds for victims of violence in the deep South.

On board the charity flight, on which seats sold for an estimated 1 million baht ($27,777), was his Royal Consort HRH Princess Srirasmi and his daughter Princess Sirivannasari Nariratana.

An illustrious list of Thai high society occupied the passengers' seats, starting with Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont and Bangkok Governor Apirak Kosayodhin. The heiress of the Thai Rath media fortune Praneetsin Watcharaphol and Lersak Sombatsiri, owner of the posh Park Nai Lert Raffles Hotel, were among the leading hi-so personalities.

The group was to overnight in Chiang Mai and return to Bangkok on Saturday.

"This flight has raised 80 million baht in donations," said Gen Surayud before boarding the plane at Suvarnabhumi Airport.

The government plans to use the money to buy new equipment for hospitals in the deep South, where a separatist struggle has claimed more than 1,900 lives in the past three years.

The Crown Prince is an accomplished pilot, starting from his instruction jet and also including the F-5 and later F-16 fighter of the Thai Air Force, and a range of Airbus and Boeing commercial jets.

Little Prince starts pre-school

HRH Prince Teepangkorn Rasmichoti plays with his new friend in the pre-school play group at Sukhothai Palace yesterday.
Yesterday saw a milestone for His Royal Highness Prince Teepangkorn Rasmichoti. It was the first time he met and made friends with children of his age in a classroom environment.

The little Prince, who is 20 months old, took part in a pre-school play group, with teachers from Chitralada School, as advised by his father, His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn.

Three other children - a girl and two boys aged between 18 months and two and a half years old - also joined the programme at the New Office building at Sukhothai Palace, where the boy prince and his parents live.

It was a day full for fun and play for the little Prince and his new friends. They played with toy cars, water and sand. The teachers read books of tales with brightly colourful illustrations for them.

Thanpuying Angkarb Boonyatthiti, the school's headmistress, said the activities were aimed at developing the children's social skills and preparing them for school.

She said Prince Teepangkorn was a fast learner and should adapt well to his new friends.

The little Prince was watched over by his father and mother, Her Royal Highness Princess Srirasmi, who sang songs and played with him.

Parents of other children were also present.

Thanpuying Angkarb said the class would be organised every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9am to 11.30am. The number of days might be extended in the future if that was desired. Three or four more children would be admitted to join the programme, she said.

Prince gets first taste of school
The youngest member of the royal family recently took part in a pre-school play group organised to prepare him physically and mentally for attending kindergarten. Arranged and supervised by teachers from Chitralada School, the session was held last week at the New Office Building at Sukhothai Palace. With his parents _ HRH Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn and HRH Princess Srirasm _ by his side, HRH Prince Dhipankara Rasmijoti, not yet two years old, seemed delighted at having three other children with whom to explore the delights of toy cars, a sandpit, a slide and a container of water in which they played with a watering can and other objects. The toddler frequently laughed and smiled and had no problem answering, in a high, clear voice, questions occasionally posed by his mother or father about the name of this toy or that animal. Thanpuying Angkarb Boonyatthiti, headmistress of Chitralada School, explained that the activities arranged for the children were aimed at developing physical coordination and socialisation skills and preparing the little prince for his first year of formal education. The toddler proved to be a fast learner and physically dexterous. He didn't seem uncomfortable surrounded, as he was, by a host of people and didn't try to keep all the toys to himself. Thanpuying Angkarb put this down to his having been given a good grounding in the virtues of generosity and sharing one's possessions with others
