These pictures are so cute, all of them (guess it has someting to do w the babys...)
but... tecnically some of them are not from christenings (Brunei, Jordan and Marocco) but from other (non christian) ceremonies for newborns... Could be interesting to know more about these ceremonies! Cutting hair in Brunei, but the oter ones? - Ok guess circumstation for boys is the most important one in mouslime countries? But for girls? Someone know???

Good eyes- Brunei, Morocco, and Jordan do not have christenings, so the committees (Humera and Warren) chose to submit pictures of other important official events. For Jordan and Morocco, they chose the first official presentation of the babies. I didn't even know about the hair cutting in Brunei, but that's one of the joys of these picture of the month polls!

The results will be announced, both here and on the blog, on June 30 when the polls close. Until then you can click on "see results" at the bottom of the voting options.

When a baby is born it is customary for an elder male in the family to whisper the "azaan" or call to prayer into their ear. This is usually done as soon as possible after the birth so that the baby's first sounds are the words of God.
Some like to feed the newborn honey, a tiny amount obviously, so that they taste somthing sweet soon after birth.

This is interesting! Tanx Little Star! I guess the elder male in the family is NOT present when the woman is giving birth... but its a nice tradition! And I guess that means the newborn from then is part of a bigger family (not just mum, dad, brothers/sisters)
But why do they want the baby to taste honey to taste something sweet?? I mean, the milk from the mother is very sweet....
... and by the way, when I had my (3 ) kids I was told not to give them honey until they was 12 months, because of the risk of become seriousely ill.... We are living in a strange (and wonderful) world!!

I really loved the picture of Mary and Christian.
It was so cute to see Christian joking with his mum.
You can see a video of the scene here:
