Round birthdays are the source of much celebration. We like to gather friends and family to help rejoice, or console, us with getting a decade older. Somehow 20 seem so much older than 19, 30 than 29, 40 than 39, and so on. Parties may make the fact that we’re growing older easier to bear. We can use them to remind ourselves that, yes, we’re getting older, but we also have the good times, memories, and friends we’ve picked up along the way, to help us cope with the fact.

This year, we’re looking at several royals facing their round birthdays. Some may choose to celebrate quietly, while others are looking to do it more lavishly. King Harald and Queen Sonja of Norway are not doing their birthday celebrations jointly, as they did when they turned 60, but both celebrations – Harald’s in February and Sonja’s in June – promises to be royal extravaganzas.

We hope you’ll enjoy the quick profiles we’ve gathered on some of the royals – or royalty-connected - with round birthdays in 2007, and that you’ll choose The Royal Forums to celebrate them with.

Last year we had some splendid birthday celebration taking place, when Queen Elizabeth II turned 80. It was celebrated with, among other things, a large party for children and characters from children's literature and television. http://www.theroyalforums.com/forums/f23/queen-elizabeths-80th-birthday-celebration-2006-a-8533.html

The children's theme wasn't quite as evident in King Carl Gustav of Sweden's 60th celebrations, but several royals showed up to celebrate the Swedish monarch. http://www.theroyalforums.com/forum...-carl-xvi-gustaf-28-30-april-2006-a-9075.html This year his oldest daughter turns 30. Can we expect something similar for her celebration as her cousin did for his 30th?
http://www.theroyalforums.com/forum...irthday-masquerade-20-august-2005-a-6956.html

Ten years ago saw the joint 60th birthday celebrations of King Harald and Queen Sonja of Norway, in Trondheim. Gathering royals from all over Europe seems to have become a tradition for the couple, as they're doing it again this year when they turn 70. http://www.theroyalforums.com/forums/f16/sonja-haralds-60th-anniversaries-1997-a-11790.html

We hope to see the royals out in full force at the celebrations of 2007, so that it is celebrations we can remember for a long time.

Marius Borg Høiby:
While not a royal himself - Marius Borg Høiby shot onto the royal scene at the age of three when his mother started seeing the Norwegian Crown Prince. At the age of four, he was a flower boy at their wedding. The son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit and Morten Borg from a brief relationship, Marius lives with his mother and step-father at Skaugum, but also spends time with his father and step-mother. Earlier this year, Marius turned 10, and the sobriquet that followed him in the Norwegian press: "Little Marius" hardly seems appropriate anymore.

Crown Princess Victoria
Crown Princess Victoria was born on July 14, 1977 to King Carl Gustaf XVI and Queen Silvia of Sweden. She was created crown princess and heir apparent on January 1, 1980, by the 1979 Act of Succession (http://www.theroyalforums.com/forums/f49/change-act-succession-1979-constitution-change-10379.html). This constitutional reform meant that the throne would be inherited by the eldest child without regard to sex. Prior to this constitutional change, the heir to the throne was her younger brother, the then-Crown Prince, Carl Philip, Duke of Värmland. At present, the Crown Princess is not married, but there has been much speculation that she will marry her beau of five years, Daniel Westling. So far, no engagement or marriage plans have been announced.
