I didn't see a news and picture thread for P. Rashid of Jordan, so I figured I'd start one. What is the Prince up to nowadays? Is he still serving in the Jordanian Army? What is his role in the kingdom, in light of his dad's fall from grace four years ago? Not that I am anti-Hassan, but P. Hassan's removal from the postion of CP was a loss of face for his entire family. How has this all affected Rashid and his siblings?

Is it true that P. Rashid if engaged to be married soon?

As far as I know he is the president of the Hashemite Charity Organisation who send aid to Iraq, Bam, Sudan, Algeria etc... they were also in charge of setting up the refugee camps in Ruwayshed before the war.

Two of his sisters are married with children and live in Jordan, Princess Sumaya runs the PSumaya Unniversity and I don't know what Princess Rahma does. His third sister Princess Badiya is not married and I think she lives in London.

Have not heard that he is going to get engaged, do you know who to? But I have seen him out in Amman during the summer, he is very good looking so i would not be surprised if he was to get married soon, pity though! When i saw him he was with two very pretty girls and another guy, so maybe it is one of them!

Rahma works for her father. She is/was also honorary president of Yarmouk University and heads the Society for Heritage Revival.

Isn't her husband Alaa al Batayneh (and his family) quite close to Abdullah and Rania?

I think you are right Sean. Ala'a is on the board of RJ and other things, obviously a well connected family. They are also a very beautiful couple, he is 'blond' (Jordanian blond= light brown hair) with blue eyes and she is the most beautiful of the princesses, I hope their daughter Aisha turns out beautiful as well!

PSumaya's husband Naser Judeh is also very high up in govt. I met him with my parents when I was last in Jordan and he has the most beautiful blue eyes!

PRashid was in some of the pictures of QRania in Bam but they weren't very good photos.

Wasn't Nasser Judah Hassan's secretary at one time and also Minister of Information & head of state television? IIRC, his father was/is a cabinet minister, as was Rahma's father-in-law. Minister of health, IIRC. So both families are well connected. They are what I would term elite marriages.

Yes, they attended the Wedding of Phillipe of Belgium to Mathilde d'Udekom d'Acoz back in 1999 (and were incorrectly identified as KA & QR as well as Sumaya and husband). They looked extremely dashing. When Rahma and Alaa Arif walked into the Cathederal I was like "HELLO".

I have a gift for retaining useless information (it is sad but true).

I will read or experience something and it will stay with me forever. Although sometimes it can be put me in a bind. More specifically,I will remember a fact or detail, but because I read so much, I can not, with absolute certainty, say where where or when I came across that piece of information. That's why I often preface statements with terms like IIRC or AFAIK, just to be on the safe side, as I don't want to be acussed of making stuff up or hallucinating :P

Cheers,

S

I have some pics, but I'm not able to scan them. I have the wedding on video (along with KH's funeral), but no way to make a copy (or watch it), as I threw out my VCR and replaced it with a dvd player. If I come across any pics, I will forward the URL addresses.

There was a rumor flying around on a message baord that P. Rashid was engaged to P. Lalla Soukeina of Morocco. But Lalla Soukeina is only 17 years old. I don't think in this day and age the Moroccan royals would allow their young members to marry without completing their education. K. Hassan II made sure his children got good educations.

Ha, that was me, i'd heard that the families wanted them to get engaged... but i don't think it's actually happening... Are there any other hashemite princesses like Nour al-Hamzah floating about for him to marry? Or do you think that he will be allowed to marry whoever he chooses?

I think Rashid will be free to marry whom he chooses; but I would to see a matchup between the royal familes of Morocco and Jordan.

I think that it would be desirable to link the families somehow, and Lalla Sukeina is very beautiful! Maybe they should marry Haya or Badiya off to Moulay Rachid!

Given his father's downturn in fortunes, it will be interesting to see if he makes a high political-elite marriage like his sisters. Personally, I don't see a Hashemite-Hashemite marriage for him . I don't think other members of the family (no matter how distant) would want to 'offend' (I'm being diplomatic) the King or Queen Noor's branch of the family. Same goes for the Moroccan RF. Just my own theory.

Relations between PHassan's family and the King seem to have been restored somewhat, as you said Rahma and Alaa are friends with K&Q and PRashid went to Iran with QRania, so I can't believe that that would be a problem. They also need husbands for their unmarried Princesses.

Though both PSumaya and PRahma's marriages are into the political elite, I also think that they were love matches, as these were the type of boys that the girls mixed with, so it wouldn't be surprising to see PRashid do the same. I talked to my elder sister on this subject and she remembers seeing him with two blonde girls at one point, one Jordanian and one European looking, she also remebers seeing him again with the same non-Jordanian girl with all his friends. Maybe he is like his his late uncle? and likes tall blonde girls? all the more chance for my younger sister and me then (my elder sister is dark like our father)!

Well, then go for it girl. You obviously socialize among some of the same circles and your father is a Hassan supporter. Plus, you are probably smarter than most of the girls that hang around Princes.

Hmmm. I can just see it now: HRH Emira Alia. Just don't forget us little people, okay? :P

(I still don't see a Hashemite marriage for him).
