It's nice to see that the whole family has come out in force. This shows that perhaps there is no animosity between Prince Hassan's, King Abdullah's and Queen Noor's families. Pity the others could'nt make.

Also a good show from the other European royal families, was expecting Queen Sofia to be there.

All is all, the children of PHassan graduated from Cambridge, Oxford, LSE....Notable British Institutions. PHamzah and PNoor from Harvard. No wonder why QR and KA might feel a bit of pressure from other members of the royal family. To me, others are all scholars, whereas KA and QR are more business or active type of people.

Queen Sofia was there. She attended pre-wedding parties but the wedding day was the national day of Spain.

I think all the young men and women of the family should be given a chance to develop in their chosen field and serve their country accordingly, but if the Al al- Bait Foundation is up for grabs again it would be much more useful to Jordan and the Muslim World if it were returned to the capable supervision of the man whose brain child the whole foundation was. The younger princes could do worse than to observe the inter-action between their uncle and the scholars, who for the most part were all invited onto the foundation by Prince Hassan and with whom he continues to work in many other fora. If I read it correctly, the whole point of this Foundation is that there should be meanful discussion between a senior member of the Al al- Bait ( ie the Hashemites) and senior Islamic scholars on the problems that beset the Islamic world. With all respect, there is no other person within the JRF who can truly do this and thereby return the foundation to a substantive function and not just a photo opportunity with sound bites. Surely the events yesterday in London underline how vital it is that everyone does their best and all resources are fully utilised. For those who do not have the background to why I am saying this, here is a quote from P.Hassan's biography. There is a lot of related and interesting information etc in his website : www.elhassan.org

"Prince El Hassan initiated, founded and is actively involved in a number of Jordanian and international institutes and committees. In Jordan he chaired the committees overseeing the first development plan 1973-1975, and subsequently the three development plans of 1976–1980, 1981–1985 and 1986–1990. His Royal Highness founded the Royal Scientific Society in 1970; the annual Bilad Al-Sham Conference in 1978; the Al al-Bait Foundation in 1980; the Arab Thought Forum in 1981 and the Jordan Higher Council for Science and Technology in 1987. His Royal Highness established the Islamic Scientific Academy; the Triannual Conferences on the History and Archaeology of Jordan; the Hashemite Aid and Relief Agency; the Centre for Educational Development; the Institute for Diplomacy and the Al al-Bait University in Mafraq."

I agree with you, Shelley. Not only is P. Hassan the most qualified person for this particular role, his interest in the subject, as you pointed out, goes back decades and is an abiding one. He is an intellectual heavyweight, a man with gravitas, and I just don't see the younger princes as having been properly groomed for this role yet. Some day, Inshallah, but not yet. I've heard that some of the scholars actually ask for P. Hassan's involvement, which tells me even they don't think the younger princes are quite ready to assume a meaningful leadership role in Al al Bayt.

Prince Hassan,as Moderator of the World Conference on Religions for Peace has issued a statement condemning of the acts of terrorism in London. I saw it in something called Peace Journalism.Com. through Google. If anyone want to read the statement, I am not sure how to post a link but this is at the top of the article :

Here's a link to the article:

Link to the article

Shelley (and anyone else who's wondering), for future reference, the easiest way to post a link is just to copy the complete Web address from the toolbar at the top of the page you want to copy, then paste it into your TRF message.

Here it is, Shelley:

From The Star

But that site is more than a little fussy, so if anyone wants to read the full article, it is also available here (at the top of the page):

Terrorism

Terrorism
By HRH Prince El Hassan bin Talal
July 14, 2005

No one is immune to terrorist attacks. The bombings that rocked the British capital last week testify once more to the fact that civilians are the most vulnerable.

A major source of worry to mankind is the fact that cooperation amongst various terror organizations throughout the world can facilitate the acquisition of weapons of mass destruction and provide terrorists with a global reach.
