coca cola,

Here is something I came across on the net re Princess Sarvath:

"On August 28th 1968, His Royal Highness married Her Royal Highness Princess Sarvath, who comes from a distinguished family of the Indian Subcontinent. Her late father, H.E. Mr. Mohammed Ikramullah worked closely with the founder of Pakistan, Mohammed Ali Janah, and was Pakistan's first Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and many times an Ambassador. Her Royal Highness’s mother, Begum Shaista Suhrawardy Ikramullah, is a writer and the first female Member of Parliament in Pakistan, as well as an Ambassador. Moreover, Princess Sarvath's paternal uncle was Vice-President of India, and her maternal uncle was Prime Minister of Pakistan. Their Royal Highnesses have four children: Princess Rahma (b. 13 August 1969), Princess Sumaya (b. 14 May 1971), Princess Badiya (b. 28 March 1974), and Prince Rashid (b. 20 May 1979)."

Well............in fact this is not entirely true.... HRH Princess Sarvath is the only wife of HRH Prince Hassan, but he was married before.
In 1968 he married the Saudic princess Tharwa, and divorced her five years later, then he married the palestinan Sarvath.

I have never heard that Prince Hassan was married before to a Saudi Princess.... However I definitely know that Princess Sarvath is Pakistani by birth, not Palestinian.

I don't think that P Hassan was married before P Sarvath.

I read her biography. As I recall, she's from Pakistan. Her father was the Pakistani embassador to Canada. She lived and studied in Ottawa for a while.

I'll look for the biography. It's in P Hassan's website.

wow im really surprised at how misinformed some of the members on this forum are about princess sarvath.
As far as i know, she's the first and only wife of Prince Hassan, and I know for sure that she's Pakistani.

Well, we can't all be experts on each and every royal and the various families. That is why books and other materials, and message boards like this exist, so that we can learn from each other.

I think it's rather rude to say that people are "misinformed" just because they do not know the entire life of another individual. How else is one supposed to learn more about Princess Sarvath or anyone or anything else if they don't ask questions.

I thought we were discussing the Princess's background. That is hardly something you need books for. Its all on her and her husband's websites.
I myself am far from an expert on any royal family.

Well, it was still necessary to read that information from somewhere. And as I mention in my previous post, one can learn these things from books as well as other materials and MBs such as this one.

My general point however, is that it is rude and unfair to say people are "misinformed" when we are all learning. No one here is expected to be an "expert" on all things royal. People ask questions and receive answers from those who know; we shouldn't judge or criticize them on their lack of knowledge.

Another question would be: does she perceived herself as part of the Jordanian culture..If you noticed, she is almost always in her SARI, the pakistani/hindi style of outfits? i am not saying she should forget about her own culture...but maybe she could also integrate some of her husband's

hmm...that's right humble...

i've only seen one picture of her in a traditional thobe (on prince hassan's website)...

it must be difficult for her to merge both cultures...

she does not have to wear the the jordanian thob. We in jordan like her style and prefer that she keeps wearing Sari, and would not be happy if she changed it. she respects her culture and we respect her for that.

i dont know about the values of other cultures related to that, but in Jordan one of our values is being faithful to our culture and being proud of it, .. to who we are, our families, and to every thing we originally belong to as well; so Jordanian woman for example does not change her name after marriage , and socially she still considered as a part of here original family not her husband's family , and the man is also still belonging to his original family, not meaning that she or he is separate from one another family, which is also considered as a second family, so P.Sarvath is considerd Pakistanian as well as Jordanian too.

P.Sarvath wearing of Sari meets with our cultural values and represents another value and feature of Jordan which is Diversity, and we always work to keep this Diversity forming the face of Jordan.

And for P. Hassan I think he carries the same values, and may be he encouraged her to wear her traditional dress.

I agree that she should be respected for keeping with her own culture. I also saw some pictures of her daughters during their Henna ceremonies. They've kept their mother's culture too, which is always good.

But this sort of leaves me wondering whether she would've changed her style of clothing if she'd become queen after King Hussein's death. I also wonder if she wears the sari while she's on official trips abroad.
