![]() I think he's cute, but then I'm old enough to be his great grandmother. Shouldn't even be noticing, let alone commenting. |

Salwar Kameez, as Humera may know, is one of the traditional North Indian dresses, and became the Pakistani dress after the partition of India (although women who already lived in the region wore the dress prior). Women who immigrated to Pakistan from other parts of India started wearing the salwar too. Conversely, for the most part Muslim women in East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) continued to wear the sarees. So it would be correct to say that salwar is the traditional dress of the northern part of the Indian subcontinent (Most Sikh women in India's Punjab state wear it as well. The Punjab is not only adjacent to Pakistan, but Pakistan was partly carved out of it). On another note, I was just in Fiji & half the population there is of Indian descent -- Hindu, Muslim, and Sikh. Most are descendants of North Indians, and most of the women there wear salwar. It felt a bit odd, as it is a form of dress that I associate with Punjabis in my mind & not Fijians. Last edited by Sean.~; 10-01-2004 at 08:37 PM. |
